Ability to remove the assignment tab
We would like to remove the Assignments Tab from Microsoft Teams so that our more gung ho users do not try and utilize this portion of the tool until it can be properly supported through IT and the departments that would be training end users. If the end user does not see it, they will not know it is even an option so there will be no need to field calls or questions.
If you’re not planning on using the class functionality in Teams, O365 IT Admins can remove the Assignments app in the Teams Admin Center under Teams apps > ‘Permission policies’.
You can set a user policy (remove it for a set of users) or a global one that removes the Assignments app for everyone in your tenant.
Before you do this, make sure to double check if any faculty are using Assignments. We’ve seen Assignments be used in all sorts of ways successfully, even without students. You can always add back Assignments by removing the policy.

You need to add the functionality to allow instructors to customize their tabs. I also have no use for the Grades Tab or the Assignments Tab and would like to remove them. There should be no need for me to be an Admin to do this.
You should probably change the status of this from "we have this", because you do not have this... I'm not an admin for my university, but I have 0 need for the 'files', 'assignments', 'class notebook', or 'grades' tabs in my class. I do, however, need many other tabs that are now hidden because of the four unnecessary tabs. The person in charge of the Team (aka the course instructor) should definitely be able to delete these tabs or, at the very least, move them to the end of the line so that they're hidden instead of the tabs I do need. It's strange to me that this was suggested back in 2017 and there are many more recent comments, but it still hasn't been fixed. I would very much appreciate this very small adjustment to your program.
Please allow admins of edu tenants to at least unpin the app from the sidebar. Today we can only remove the app completely, but there should be a middle ground of allowing those who need it, to be pinned.
when i have a assignment in teams by my teacher adds a tab that i don't use, i can't remove it. it only gives these options; open in word online, open in word app or open in teams, and if i added it it would give me the options to delete, and the other options above

It was added to a team that uses the staff template for testing and now we can't remove it. We should have the option to remove it like any other tab
"You can set a user policy (remove it for a set of users) or a global one that removes the Assignments app for everyone in your tenant." This isn't a solution for just removing from a single team that does not need this feature is there a way to do this even if I have to powershell it?

This should not need to be admin controlled function. Further, at our school there are multiple teachers unfortunately in one team. This should definitely be able to be controlled by the teacher. We can add tabs surely we can delete them. I personally have no need for notebook as I ask students to write in Word and attach assignments. Tabs are very limited real estate. We need control of this.
you are assuming that a School has an individual tenant. Our district controls it & won't do that.
When creating a Class team, have some options to remove grades and assignment.
Can confirm, blocking the Assignments app removes it from the left hand navigation view on next start of Teams. I've even managed to pin Planner for the IT group to the left navigation using Setup Policies.
This solves my issue, thanks!
Our educators do not use Teams with students. We use it for business and do not need the Assignments button. Please give organizations the option to customize the left navigation and hide or remove this button.
+1 on being able to customize the view
+1. Would love to have users be able to decide whats in their view
+1. Would be good to allow a user and admins to change what apps appear on the app bar.
+1 on removing the "Assignment" tab from Microsoft Team EDU. It should be a configurable thing. Allow Admins to add if they need it for their organization, remove it if they don't. Do not force it on us.
Why can't tabs just be a modular thing?

We second this suggestion. Teams is not a tool that is going to be used for teacher/student interaction at our school and therefore the Assignments tab is useless to us.
