Skype for Business 2016 had the ability for separate chats to be in separate windows. It would be cool if this was possible for chats within teams.
As we announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019 this week, we are excited to confirm that Multi-window capabilities are coming to Microsoft Teams, and will start rolling out to the public ring early next year!
we need to have the chat box available at all times please
This would be an awesome enhancement that would be user friendly for all of us in our office.
please, please, please add this feature. It would make my work day so much easier!

Opened since 09/2017? Getting close to the second anniversary!
This is a MUST HAVE! Only being able to use one Teams feature at a time makes multi-tasking impossible and me much less productive.
This would be such a helpful feature! Please make it happen!
Yes, please. Chatting and using the rest of Teams concurrently is cumbersome. Another reason this would be helpful is a UI issue: chat conversations look so similar to conversations in channels, that some users have reported to me a little confusion as to whether they are replying or starting a new conversation. Having chat look more like a narrow chat window users expect from Skype and other apps might solve that problem as well.

I Think this is a must have
I agree with the other commenters. The chat tab should work like other chat clients. You should be able to "pop out" a specific chat when needed. I often need to navigate Teams, or access documents in Teams while chatting. This is a critical mode of communication with collaborating with a specific person and demands its own window.
This would be so helpful for navigating Teams while chatting!
I am getting very frustrated trying to chat with a colleague about something we are viewing in a Teams channel. I can't see both at the same time, and every time I go to the chat and then back to the channel, I have lost my place and have to navigate back to where I was looking.
