I would love for the assignment tab to show up in each channel created. I create a new channel to match each unit of study. I use each channel as a module.
Thank you everyone for the additional feedback on this feature request! We’ve read all your comments and are currently investigating what we can do to help.
As a teacher this facility would be so useful.
We use one team for one batch and one channel for each subjects on our school. Putting all assignments and grades in general channel only is very counterintuitive. As a workaround, we now have to create quiz as new tabs with the quiz form inside of it. Please make assignments and grades available on all channels.
Any updates on having assignments in each channel? Students are feeling overwhelmed with assignments all listed in one place. Would love to make it a little easier for students to see what is needed in each unit?
It would be realy usefull to have assignement tabs at the channel level. My teams need to have about 15 channel, so it's very confusing to have the Assignements/Notes in the General channel.
Looking forward to see that improvement soon!

I've read the comments below. Some a related to this request. But some actually be bases upon the idea of assigning assignments to specific groups of people.
I think the better solution for this would be to use the member tagging feature which already exists. Then when assigning the task you setit for specific member tags. (this feature doesnt yet exist)

I work in a junior high and each class has a separate channel for each subject. It would be much better for me to be able to send out assignments within my subject channel rather than putting category tags in the general channel.
Yes I agree, general should show all assignments but each tab can show that specific channels assignments.

Please add default "Assignments" tab to each channel, thanks!
"Assignments" in General should then show ALL assignments from ALL channels.

We are using the Team to manage the pastoral side of school. Rather than have team sprawl we have created 3 teams covering how we section the age groups in the school itself. Lower, Middle and Upper School.
Within these we have channels for each tutor group. Each tutor needs to be able to set their own assigments for their discreet cohort. The current method via the general channel is not the easiest to manage for staff of more importantly the younger age groups.
Stop telling us how you think we should manage our teams and listen to your end users. To make life easier for the students we really need the functionality of assigments cascaded down to Channel level.
I suggest you check out the very old cartoon that relates to programming, called "What the user wanted" At the moment the coders are telling us what we need. Development shouldnt work like that.
I've created one team for my class and channels for each subject. So thats very easy to understand for my kids and we do not need one channel for each topic. So the other teachers work with me in mey team and want to manage their own assignments in their channels. Please allow us to use a assignemtn tab in each channel so that all teachers are able to use it in their own subject / channel
Workarround with categorys doesn't work because "guests" of my team are note able to filter the view to see only the category they need. Therefore I ask you also to implement the assignement tab to channels PLEASE!

I would find it helpful even if there was a possibility to link back to the original assignments tab in the general channel. Maybe it would be a link in the "new" channel that automatically filtered by category if that would be easier.
Having the ability to create or add assignments into the channels section would certainly help teachers organize their units more effectively. I understand there is a feature to categorize assignments within the assignments section, but this is not clean enough for some students or teachers. My mind processes a jumbled mess when looking in the assignments section even when I toggle the categories, so I understand my students' frustration when trying to compartmentalize or classify their tasks. Adding this feature does not take anything away from those who are satisfied with the current layout; it simply gives more options to those who need more.
Dear MS Product Manager and SharePoint developers,
assignment and grade tab in each channel is a must to
1. Ensure that our pupils can easily click&see per subject as they have it in physical world.
2. One or multiple teachers can easily distribute and control assignments in their own or shared
It is this 1000+1 feature which makes it easier and logical for everybody - teachers and students.
During the setup and testing phase, 100% of our teachers asked how to add assignment and grade tab in the new channel. It says something I guess.
Otherwise, good job on re-using some proven technologies (SharePoint, Skype, ...) under the hood of more acceptable and friendly user interface.

Adding a category does no good in helping students to go to ONE channel for the weekly/daily information.
Adding the category to the assignment does not provide the same function as having the assignments tab in each channel. Students have not learned the same organizational skills as adults, breaking subjects or time periods into channels is necessary for them and so is breaking up their assignments into manageable sections.
How can I add an assignment tab to my team under general? there are only two tabs at the moment: post-file-+.
thanks in advance
I also would prefer to have "Assignment" tab under each channel , as this will make it simple to understand and work on!
It's almost unbelievable that only the general channel can organize an assigment. I though it was a joke...
Filter with tag is a nice idea if this filter will be fixed. For now you need to apply filter every time you enter assignments tab. Many schools use channels for subjects in primary school. In this case each head teacher has ONE team with several subject-channels. And each pupil has one team for simplicity.
