screenshare without audio
In Skype for Business it's possible to share your screen without using the audio feature. This is important for us, because we use a different conf bridge. Using Skype/Teams audio in that scenario just gets in the way (echo, unwanted audio through PC, etc).
Bottom line, it would be nice to be able to share your screen in Teams without using the voice/audio feature.
I have confirmed with the feature team that this is, in fact, functioning as you expect today – you can share your entire desktop or a specific window directly from a private chat session, without starting audio or video. The mute microphone button is enabled so you are able to easily add audio by “unmuting”, but we realize this is causing confusion. We are working on further experience improvements.
Please feel free to respond to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are still seeing issues.

This is a really obvious use case for teams that work in the same room. Definitely need this before we leave Skype.

Not only does the audio call get in the way, but it uses unnecessary bandwidth.

Can't wait until they deliver a screenshare without audio, but also without private chat because we didn't specifically ask for it.............
I'm not going to add anything else productive to conversation at this point.
This is malicious compliance, yes? - Indeed

Unfortunate that we have to re-vote when the original request was pretty clear. Yes video was in the title but it was obvious that the request was to just initiate screen share only. Contrary to popular belief, conferencing doesn't only happen in the Microsoft Teams app. If you are already on a audio/video call within another mode or just chatting about something then sometimes it is better to just share without initiating another call.
Also this isn't a special case, this was a feature in Skype for Business... obviously this is a workflow you've created and many adopted. Don't just throw it out or change the workflow because it is tough to implement. Take the time and do the work.

@CE: It creates an audio call but the call is muted. You can unmute and the person on the other side can hear you.
I didn't notice this until I saw the recent posting. This was definitely well hidden in the original feature announcement.
This one is surely on the Microsoft Product Owner who has made a terrible product design decision that was then implemented. Unbelievable.
I thought this already worked. The screenshare button in teams starts an audio call too? I feel like it doesn't do that for me... Am I missing something?
We should not be forced to re-vote. The initial vote was for the ability to screen share without having to make a video call and you interpreted that as being ok if you forced an audio call? Please just enable a chat to be escalated to screen share without any form of audio or video. Just a screen share. Thats it.

I think the vast majority of the 5,500 votes for screenshare without video call were thinking that feature would also include screenshare without audio. In fact if you look at the comments many people were saying they wanted the functionality to do a screenshare while doing a Teams private chat. Clearly there was some miscommunication on what that feature would deliver.
I think it's fair of us to ask that you reconsider asking for a new idea to be up-voted and re-evaluated. Isn't there any method for us (the Teams Community) to evaluate the screenshare without video functionality and provide the feedback that it's missing an integral piece?
wow, way to miss the point. The point is that communication is already happening via a chat, a phone call, or maybe even just talking across the cubicles. I would love to talk to the people that the team talks to when coming up with these usage scenarios and priorities. I really want to understand how they stay productive in a normal office environment.

Splitting hairs pretty finely MSFT. If we wanted to screenshare without a video call it makes sense we wouldn't want it to work with an audio call. We just want it to work like it used to in S4B.
This is really an absurd thing to redo the same exact vote because MS didn't understand the user base and our use of the product. ANY other product on the planet offers the options with or without the others. I should be able to chat or ad hoc start a screen share. Audio has nothing to do with it. Why anyone would think that is difficult to grasp.
I thought the previous feature request was this feature request. I guess, technically, what was requested was provided. I suppose there wasn't any reading between the lines to figure out what was actually wanted.
Maybe we need to specify also that we want to only share whatever program is on our screen or screens at whatever time of the day.. sorry, need to be specific... day and night and this for as long as we need to share our screen.
Seriously? Your making us re-vote? We voted for the ability to screen share without having to make a video call and you interpreted that as being ok if you force us to make an audio call? What's next, you deliver this feature but force a carrier pigeon to be sent because we didn't explicitly say to not force that? Please. Just enable a screen share from a chat. That's it. Just a screen share.
Hey guys, keep these comments tame..... thank you! :-)

I find the fact that you didn't include this in the original feature request, and now making us vote for it again for not having an audio call to be completely ridiculous.
This should not have been this hard.
We don't want to have a call at all.
We just want to share the screen.
(Like we can in S4B).

Is it necessary to specifically request that we want to screen share without audio and also without video???, or is that another request?; I wouldn't be surprised now if they enabled now a screenshare feature with video but without the audio because this was not clear

Make it the same as SFB - with a 'share my screen button' that doesn't require any call (audio or video) - it's not rocket science you numbskulls
