Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your votes and comments on this feature. The team is in the process of finalizing designs for deleting private chat threads. I will update as we have more progress to share.
Can you update the situation of this feature?

Ridiculous a full private chat can not be deleted. What about privacy??? Taken far too long to implement this.
Well, I read a request for deleting private chats in 2017. Meanwhile it is 2021. How long do you think it will take to "finalizing" that design?

Hi, This request is 8th in a growing list of over 61,500 user requests for Teams. I am curious why there has been nothing but crickets regarding this request since June 2020. As many have already mentioned, this is a very respectable request and it isn't asking for anything out of the ordinary. Private chats are really that, private. If users want to wipe an entire private chat, they should be able to. There is also very good argument based around the privacy laws and allowing users of online sites to request removal of any of their user generated content.
Could we at least get an update on this?
Any update on the topic - deleating the whole chat with someone?
Am running Mac OS Big Sur, Teams was working fine using inbuilt microphone, video and speaker. All of a sudden yesterday using Teams microphone and speaker stopped working. I have tested with several other applications and the microphone and speaker are working fine. Teams is enabled in "Privacy", I have uninstalled and reinstalled Teams several times with no luck. I made a test call with Teams it shows that all is fine "see attached".
It should be possible to remove at anytime
Any update on this
In the culture climate we live in today I'm terrified to know you can't delete or make private conversations between two individuals. There should always be an options to remove a conversation totally if the needs should arise or both parties want their discussion to be private.

The delete chat feature should have been made available to users when this app had been created especially since it's suppose to be so much better than Skype for business. Hiding a conversation is useless because it still take up unnecessary space. I will not use this app until this feature is made available.
Yes, i have tons of messages that i cannot delete, like students axidently white on the wall instead of chat, closed meeting etc... it takes unnecessary space in the team wall and i cannot remove them.
Obviously something fishy is going on when a communication app/platform does not include the ability to delete conversations. Instagram/whatsapp/signal/telegram/text on a brick phone/email/handwritten letters, literally any way of communicating gives you the ability to delete chats but Microsoft "forgot" to add this feature? It literally takes more effort to leave this feature out than to implement.
Let this be a warning to anyone who dares to listen. These massive tech companies know things we don't. They are way ahead of us. Maybe this is a mistake but ask yourself this; do you really think any of your chats are actually deleted when you press the delete button?
Come on guys, why is this simple/basic feature taking SO LONG to make happen. It is discouraging for newbies to not be able to play around and then get rid of the evidence of all our mistakes.
The name of the ADMIN is Alexandra Olsen, maybe we should ask her via Linkedin?
Do it now!!! Stop waste time!!
Pls do it quickkly
Hi, what is the progress of this?
Any updates on this BASIC feature still missing?
This is so important - especially for using Teams in Education. Please implement as soon as possible, or you will lose people to Zoom

E' importantissimo poter eliminare un messaggio da parte dell'amministratore
This microsoft teams is worse as time go on using it. It doesnt let you delete your chat threads at work. its always asking me to sign in. If a group chat has started it should when downsized only the first person in the group chat and you can mistakenly send a message to someone not meant for whole group. what can you do to fix this issue.
