Delete Private Chat threads
This request is for the ability to completely delete a private chat thread. (Not hide/archive.)
Again, this was pulled out into its own topic because it is still under review and no decision has been made.
To recap what has already been completed from the other topic:
- Delete your own messages anywhere in Teams.
- Team Owners can choose if users can edit/delete in their tenant as well as choose if admins have the power to delete any message posted in public channels.
- The ability to hide your private chat threads (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
- The ability to mute your private chat threads. (these are not the chat threads in channels, but the private chat threads that appear when you click the Chat icon on the left-side app bar).
This topic deserves consideration and separating out hot items is something we have often done. Please don't think of this as an attempt to diminish the ask, we know that many people want this.
Thank you for your understanding and feedback.
Thank you for your votes and comments on this feature. The team is in the process of finalizing designs for deleting private chat threads. I will update as we have more progress to share.
I strongly agree with this. Please give us the update as soon as possible.
Any update on this?
Any updates on this? This feature should be a no-brainer.
Users really need to delete those no-longer-in-used chat group, thx.
The Teams user needs this functionnality, it's very important. You receive one message per day but you don't do anythings. Is not normal in 2021 ! you need to edit you settings confidentials.
You waiting people dies or not ?
What is the reason that this issue will not be fixed?
We need the delete-function in private-chats!
On Friday this feature request will be 3 years old! At this rate it will be a teenager before anything is done.
Happy Birthday for Friday...
Still waiting for an update Admin Alex - close to a year now, get with the program microsoft.
Please give updates on this ASAP.
This is THE highest rated request features without any progress/updates.
Are there any updates on this? Last official update was 8 months ago. This is one of the highest rated request features without any progress/updates.

ADMIN, your comment was made July 2020 and there still is not a delete button ?
I do not see an update from you as to your progress. Please have your "teams" work on this feature.
We really should be able to set an automatic deletion of messages and files after a certain length of time, both as a global policy and at individual chat as well as chat members being able to trigger deletion of old messages themselves. Admittedly all members of a chat group should get a say for a clear out of older messages.as it affect all members rather than just individuals.
Should I recommend my clients to use other solutions? How can you pretend it is in the process of finalizing designs for a so easy to implement functionnality?! It is not the role of an Admin to decide wether a chat (especially private ones) can be deleted or not!!
final the design! now!
Microsoft seems to be stalling on this issue. Need a suggestion for similar function app where deleting chats is a given right. This is ridiculous...

I wish I could vote for this more than once. The clutter of old chats is making it time consuming to keep just what's important in front of you. Imagine if you couldn't delete emails that were just to set up a meeting time... from three years ago.

DELETE, DELETE, DELETE private chats. What's so hard about this. Is there anyone listening at MS? Zoom does this so it can't be that hard. I guess its because we are dealing with MS...so frustrating. It is so confusing with all the chats. Even when you hide them they come back days later. And you are thinking you are or responding to a new question or something.
Please proceed to provide to the user the ability to delete -1- the entire discussion, -2- many parts of the discussion, -3- one by one, part of the discussion.
People cannot understand why it is taking more than two years for Microsoft to decide on this functionality, to design and to develop.
It doesn't even appear on the official roadmap
Someone, somewhere is being economical with the truth.
