Search content by partial strings
We are not able to use a partial string when searching.

Work has been done by the team to add support for partial strings. They are continuing to work on improving the experience.

As commented from "anonymous" below. Search only finds a partial string. If it's the beginning of the word it works, but not when the string is in the middle/end of a word. Please fix this/add this feature.
Example from below:
searching for "crocodile" - OK found
searching for "croco" - OK found as well
searching for "dile" - we didn't find any matches. -

Search is so important especially since we are telling our organizations to use Teams instead of email. But what's the point if they cannot find the information they need when they need it.

I appreciate the improvements, but I agree with Lars: partial strings can start anywhere in the text, not just at the beginning of a work.Teams - and all O365 apps - should be able to find them!
Please go on improving this! -

it still doesn't work properly!
someone wrote a word "crocodile" in a channel, and also in a chat
I'm searching for "crocodile" - OK, both found
I'm searching for "croco" - OK, both found as well
I'm searching for "dile" - we didn't find any matches.Come on! It's 21st century and the search DOESN'T PROPERLY WORK...

Having partial string matching is essential. Perhaps use quoting or wildcards for exact/inexact matches. F.x. 'snap' = only that word, while snap is any word containing snap, and*snap* / *snap is any word starting / ending with snap.

Skype's lack of search functionality is why we switched from it to Slack. Now we're trying to move from Slack to Teams, but the inability to match partial strings is a big limitation. Example: I can remember that an email address a colleague messaged me has "inbox" in it, but I can't remember the rest of it. Teams is meant to record this kind of information and chat exchanges for us, to serve as a record. But if I can't search for text with "inbox" in order to fin the rest of the string (inbox1234@....) then what good is it? Partial string search is very important and it's absence in Teams is a large drawback to using it.

Come one ... I cannot find the places where people write 'spreadsheet' in one word, when I search for 'spread'.

I agree. Outlook's email search can search partial words, Teams should be able to as well.

Teams is a collaboration tool. Users post info using their own keywords. In order to find all relevant info from Teams it is imperative that one can search on part of a keyword.

Repurpose the find capabilities in Visual Studio which includes Regex.

Search for 'risiko' matches 'risikovurdering' in files, but not in messages.
Come on ... this makes search so USELESS

Windows app needs partial searches. This is an expected feature for almost any user base in today's world.

It also works with partial search in the Android app but not in the Windows app for Windows 10.

Forget the year, it's the age of computers. Why would they limit search functionality to "exact match only"?! Seriously, if a message/reply has "requirements", it will not show in the search results if you search "requirement". Why did they release such a subpar search feature? Oh yeah, "Microsoft". Half-assing every product they've ever released since the company's inception.

I have noticed the Teams app for iOS allows for partial word search. In your example above, "collab" would produce results in the Mobie app, but the same exact search in Windows app does not :(

Yep, that is 100% needed. Very troublesome to find the appropriate material in Teams without that ability.
