Search content by partial strings
We are not able to use a partial string when searching.

Work has been done by the team to add support for partial strings. They are continuing to work on improving the experience.

Two years old, still working on it.
The search features in Teams is abysmal. If you don't know the first few letters of the search item, it finds nothing.
Wildcards do nothing.
Partial string search does nothing.How was this VITAL feature overlooked?

Searching for teams only works using the start of the team name. Using any complete words in the name pull up 0 results. Typing in a single letter pulls up results though. Mostly with teams that start with that letter, as expected from above. But some teams show up that have the letter in word in the name. For example search for C would return team "ABCD". Also getting results for teams without the letter in their name.. Searching for Z returns team "ABCD". Its not at all obvious what "Team Search" is keying off of when searching.

Cannot find part of string (in a comment for example) in the desktop application. If I search the same part of the string I am looking for in the Teams App on my iPhone I get a correct hit? Search functionality in Teams for desktop (PC) seems to suck.

Wildcard search in Teams is not working for numbers! Wildcard *VE123* finding something, but *123* does not! Also Outlook search is BAD. Those all searches are VERY BAD, fix them!

This BUG is over 2years old!
Wow is not a strong enough word for this.
Please fix this BUG immediately, and in every part of Teams (not just the main search bar, but in EVERY PART of the software)
This is so extremely basic, and such a foundational requirement for any tool. To push forward on integrating nifty gadgets, but miss on such a core functionality, really is shocking.

This is a gamechanger for the adaptation of MS Teams from outlook in my company. If people can't search partial strings then it becomes a showstopper for rolling out MS TEams.
I'm surprised that this hasn't been included as part of the recent improvement to the search functionality in Teams.
PLEASE prioritise this support the transition to Teams. -

a basic string of phone number cannot be search. I have to really input the full number just to have a result. this is just an example how not reliable the current search feature is... :(

when searching for a team, partial string works...but only if you get the start of the string correct. So if I'm looking for My Team and I search using 'My', it works, but if I use 'Team' it doesn't.
This is embarrassingly bad, it's 2020, doing search correctly is easy! This isn't a feature request, it's a bug that needs to be fixed.
Is there an ETA...even a rough one? -

Hi, could you update the progress of this case? It is hard to go from Sharpoint online to Teams when users get worse experience compated to old solutions. Thanks

When the name contains underscores, it is not possible to find it at all. For example the file name is "number___wordA__wordB__wordC", I can find the file only if I type the number and words without the underscores e.g. "Word A word B". Search on MS Teams and on SharePoint returns 0 when searching for example "wordA__wordB".

The search option in Teams is not as strong yet as it is in Outlook. This keeps people emailing. Hope search will be as good as the Outlook one as soon as possible :)

being able to search content throughout a webpage is a basic need. we need this for our Teams Wiki. Otherwise, the wiki is useless and we'll resort to another solution.

Experiencing many problems in trying to search for files in Teams. I would have thought that partial strings would be standard. We hope to move a lot of our files into Teams and hope to use a simple naming convention but the inability to search for various files using partial strings is a big downer. with lots of content i should be able to type in a partial file or code and it should pulls those files up.

+1 for searching for teams by wildcard. It is pretty silly that wildcard searches work nearly everywhere else across the entire Microsoft stack, but Teams search is only by prefix. If nothing else, the Teams search experience should state that you must search by exact team name or prefix.
Also, TRAIN YOUR PREMIER SUPPORT STAFF FOR THIS! I had a ticket open for six weeks, and frontline support had no clue that you could only search by prefix. I wasted countless hours back and forth between them, and only after the ticket was escalated to the product group did I learn this limitation.

Well the good thing is if people are complaining about a feature not working, then they are trying your tool. But searching for a string in a team name seams pretty basic. Glad you're working on this oversight. Hopefully it will be out soon.
