Improve audio notifications
VOLUME: The sound is too low!! Most people don't think it's even on. Let us customize the sound level, please.
UNIQUE SOUNDS FOR CALLS VS CHATS/MESSAGES: Right now sounds are all or nothing. This is not good. For example, you may want to have sound for Calls but not for chat or messages. There is a difference when you need to hear that someone is calling you – versus getting the constant bing/bing/bing on message chat.
UNIQUE SOUND FOR PRIVATE CHAT: It would be nice to have different sounds for private chat and notifications, so that its easy to know what's coming in without having to look at it.
The team has updated the default sound for Teams notifications so it is more noticeable. We are in final testing, with a goal to release the new sound by the end of this quarter.

Not just unique sounds, also need to be able to select the audio device for each like you could in Skype. I take my headset off after a call, and the notifications all go there.
4,403 votes on an issue going back years, and we still have the one stupid default sound for anything that happens in Microsoft Teams. How is it that I can't assign sounds per action, per team, per channel, or even per user? We have channels in our Team for different purposes, a couple of which are for things of an urgent nature. Why I can't I specify a more urgent sound for those? Why can't I have a default sound (different from Teams or Channels sounds) for all users, and specify a different sound when the chatter is my boss or one of a handful of co-workers' whose requests are generally more important?
I'm pretty sure I know the answer. It's probably the same reason corporate IT departments like to do things like assign one unchangeable desktop wallpaper across an entire enterprise: User homogeneity.
Please fix this.
I'm really surprised that I can't disable the sound for chat messages without disabling the sound for incoming calls.
Yep, can hear everything else on the computer but not teams notifications.
As other recent comments have mentioned - the real point of this idea is to have more control, including for separating control for calls vs messages. The Admin response seems to be only in response to the volume. Can we please have an admin update clarifying the status to all 3 points?
While I don't agree the sounds are too low, I would like to see changes in this system. I want to be able to decide what I want to hear if I get a chat message for example. The one that is build in is for me way too loud and intrusive compared to other sounds I have on my computer. Can't Teams be hooked up to the ordinary windows sound scheme, so you can set themes and change what sounds to play, like you do for the rest of the system?
It's 2021 and this still isn't fixed. C'mon, Microsoft, get it together.
Is this really flagged as "In Testing" when the response only mentions a new sound? There are three parts to the item being voted on, and I'd say the new sound portion is by far the least important of those items. We need more control around the volume of the sounds, and the ability to toggle sounds for calls vs notifications separately.
A huge proportion of people will not need their chat binging away all day, but do need to know when they're getting a call - and people need to be able set any notifications they do have to a volume they can hear.

Is there any way to configure sound for client web version?

Please have an option to disable the banner but leave the sound for messages on. That would be greatly appreciated.
I need to be able to turn off the notifications sound for new messages without muting the sound for incoming calls. I don't need to hear every time someone else has commented.
I'd also like the option for them to be muted automatically when I am in a teams meeting - linked to the calendar?
But you've still not separated the sound on/off in the settings (separate incoming call sound from any other sound triggered by the software
The only noise I want to hear from Teams is a ringtone. I want to switch off this really annoying bing-bing-bing on each chat notification!
Same here on Linux 1.3.00.30857 (64-bit).
I can see the playback channel is opening but no volume at all.
Even on Settings->Calls Ringtones selecting a ringtone the same issue.
That is quite annoying.

not getting any sound with 1.4.00.4167 64 bit, desktop or web.
Echoing others that we need to be able to turn off sound for chat notifications while retaining sound for incoming calls ... why are these linked?
I just want to receive a notification sound without banners showing...
This is ridiculous. This was identified as an issue one year ago by Microsoft and its still in the testing phase.
Does anyone know if the sound is stored somewhere in Windows Explorer? I’ll replace it now myself if I have to with a much louder noise.

We are now in 2021 and the audio notifications have not improved at all. Users should have the option of choosing which sounds to use and control the volume. I don't know how many times I have missed a message because I didn't hear the notification sound.
I also need to turn off popups for chat messages (I share my screen often for trainings) but still allow a sound for new chat messages. I am also too easily distracted by the popups on the daily and prefer them turned off.
It's frustrating that I can turn everything BUT chat messages to "banner only". WHY can't you have everything behave the same?
