Make "Follow this channel" the default setting.
Usual Microsoft lack of UI intuition.
Channels should be followed by default with the user unfollowing it if they wish.
Thank you for the feedback. Changing the default setting is under review by the feature team, and your feedback is very useful as they are evaluating.

The current standard doesn't make sense: if you are Opening new channel, then you will get the news of the team members!
This is will help in work, it's problem when notifications off by default.
When we (the owners) send a message on the general channel, we want all users to be notified without having to tag @team. Need the ability to force all users to follow the channel
a Must required option
Microsoft? Make it happen.

Is this review any different from the last 3 times this item reviewed? Because it's been under review since 1/23/2018, over 2 years.
Honestly, this is the preferable alternative to having it off by default, but options to set defaults at the global level would be far more beneficial.

Agreed. This is vital!
Users are missing vital notifications, this is a must!
We're migrating from Slack to Teams. First thing I noticed was the lack of notifications when msgs are sent. What good is this if I have to go look for the msgs sent to me? I'm sitting at my screen and have no idea a conversation is happening that I should be part of.
Default setting for all channels should be set at the Team level. Then users can opt out if they choose.
Please fix this as it is making our user adoption very difficult!

I agreed to be by default enabled.
I agree to be by default enabled. There are too many users to contact and explain how to do that.
Is more clear that a user disable actively the annoying notifications.
Maybe it could be a admin center's setting or rule?
Channel notifications must be enabled by default.
As Teams Admin should have option to set force the notifications ON and deny the user the possibility to set it OFF. also as Teams owner they should also get option to enforce notifications for members when there is new post or update in channel. if members doesn't want notification they can turn off them self
I also think that it should also be possible for the Teams Admin, to set force the notifications ON and deny the user the possibility to set it OFF. There are some channels where we want to guarantee that everyone is receiving notifications.
Agree...it is a drawback for channel notifications :-(
We are just deploying Teams and adoption is very low because nobody answers to new posts. Channel notifications must be enabled by default.

Alternatively a central location to manage notifications would be IDEAL.

According this article (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/manage-notifications-in-teams-1cc31834-5fe5-412b-8edb-43fecc78413d) the notification default should be like that: By default, channel mentions are turned off and all new posts will only show in Activity.
This is NOT TRUE. When I click in Channel notification on "Reset do default", the result is:
All new posts = OFF
Channel mentions = Banner and Feed.
Are You still doing a review since 2/2020?
Please fix this! Make "Banner and Feed" a default for both. Thank You!
My Boss today asked me the following... as i would like to keep her happy can you fix this ... Here is what she wrote (in teams)
"it is possible to configure that all channels have notifications turned on by default and that you can manually switch off.
It is the other way around at the moment and i find myself missing messages and not always receiving replies"

Totally agree. Especially with the creation of a new channel it's important to have a default notification to inform user about it.
