The main problem with Teams is if the app is not open and you receive a message, it appears down the bottom right of one of your screens for only a moment, and then it disappears and the Teams icon in the notification area doesn't change. It the icon were to flash or the app itself were to open when a message is received this would save one from later opening Teams and then realising half the company has been trying to contact you.

Coming up to 17 months "working on it". In that time you could have ripped out the entire options system and replaced it with a proper hierarchical set of options, including this as just one of them.
We don't get any notification whatsoever for messages in chat. No sound, not even a faint one. No banner. I've tried to remedy the lack of sound but no luck. From the other comments, even if I managed to hear a sound, I might miss it. So far no one in our company uses Teams and this is part of the reason why. We urgently need this. I don't want to have to get Slack in addition to Office 365.

When working on multiple monitors and Teams is minimized, the flashing notification on the Taskbar is too subtle on Monitor 1 if I'm looking at Monitor 2. Need it to persist longer and be more obvious, especially for Chat notifications. Basically need it like Skype did it.
Agree with comments below too about all chat messages popping up. Limit it to the first one, and hide any additional ones. Don't need clients seeing an entire conversation when I'm sharing my screen.

Agree with a lot of comments on this one already... the Teams notifications are so annoying that I have to turn them off, but then I miss things. I receive a lot of messages every day. When the notifications are on, I have half of my screen filled with messages that stay there for 5 seconds each. I've had to ask people to start typing paragraphs instead of sending separate comments because I can't stand that it displays every single message I receive. Please make notifications less intrusive. Skype was perfect. I used to have just a blinking notification and that was great - it tells me I have something to view, but lets me do so when I please. What release will improvements be included in?
This functionality would be great.
Prefer Skype format. Allow for option to display pop up with message only for the first message from that person. Also, allow for the content of the message to be hidden like on Skype- you see the notification from the 1st IM, but just the person's name and not the details. This is super important when sharing screens with clients, etc.
I agree, sound notification is needed.

Any update, there is a lot of other duplicated posts on this topic, there is about 100+ posts of other ideas all about notifications, be great to merge them all, seems to be a big factor in other teams not liking or using Teams any more

We just need to have it where the first chat message notification displays, and not every single response.
Just copy how skype does it.

It's a simple feature request. Every chat app needs notification and sounds to alert users.
I have to stop migration to Teams because Skype and Group Chat do it better than Teams.
Group chat is an app created before 2010 and works better with notifications.
How is it possible a new app don't have a better feature?

Notifications for the team level so I don’t have to subscribe to every channel

Make new updates more noticeable. Have the option to make pop ups private, i.e. "A chat message has been received",
Group unread notifications in a separate section.

We were hoping to use this product to replace the large amount of company wide emails and direct non-essential company-wide communications into a forum that would not clog everyone's inboxes. Notifications on team chats is crucial to accomplishing this goal. I look forward to hearing good news on this in the near future!
Notification configuration at channel level. Can you provide an update on expected timeline?
We should be able to set a specific notification sound of our choosing. If nothing more, let us modify it via the Sounds property in Control Panel. We are constantly missing messages due to the lame little plunk notification you provide.
It would be beneficial to have the option to NOT display a preview of the message upon notification. When you're in meetings showing your computer or sharing screens with an individual (not using do not disturb), this is a distraction.
Allow notifications to sound on all devices (not just the device used for conversation).
Also make pop ups private, i.e. "A chat message has been received", rather than the person and a good chunk of the message.
This has been worked on for 16 months now, I guess the coming changes are going to be astounding (hopefully in a good way). Are there any updates?

It would be helpful if there would be a notification option to force the Teams app to pop up on my screen when someone sends me a chat message or if there is new activity in a Teams channel that I'm following.
