Good news. The feature, Unified Presence (aka same presence as Skype for business) is rolling out.
The feature update has started rolling out to customers.
PLEASE NOTE: Not everyone will receive the update at the same time.
You can read more about the March releases on the Teams Blog – https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Teams-Blog/What-s-new-in-Microsoft-Teams-April-update/ba-p/179801
Thank you very much for all your feedback.

I agree either move the functionality of teams to SfBor vice versa. Two tools of which neither do everything we need, or everything well is a disappointment.
The system tray icon should have an indication of the user's status like Skype For Business does. This is a good reminder to undo "Do not disturb" status when it really no longer applies, for instance.
This is ridiculous that it wasn't already integrated. Not only do you have to manage an entirely separate information channel with Teams but you also must manage a separate presence as well. Teams, therefore, hinders productivity instead of enhancing it because it sits so far outside established communication channels.

yeah the desktop client shows you away if you are not active in teams, should be if you are actually away from your PC. I will be working in other apps with teams running on another screen or int eh background but I am still available

Should use the same status as SfB
I agree with @ansze, should be the same prescence, espescially as you can chat between the two platforms, but I disagree with @edev: let's keep S4B around as well! Sometimes I just want a light client for IM/Prescence/chat, sometimes I want the rich UI in Teams. For me the difference is if I'm adressing one person, or a group/team/department.
Take a look at Avanades great blog post here:
I agree with EDev, please flush Skype business off this world, it lacks of history, it lacks of alot of functions, please integrate the phoning capabilities into Microsoft Teams once and for all and force everyone to use Microsoft Teams as the next future platform.
You have too many platforms now doing the same thing and all of them are working till about 80% capacity
First of all, it was a nice surprise that messaging between Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business works nicely, even if it was not widely announced. However, I miss a presence indicator!
And I second the opinion of those who think that there are too many clients... Could Teams be the replacement for Skype for Business, leaving only Skype and Microsoft Teams? That would mean no more "two Skypes" (and three logon mechanisms which make possible three identities with the same email address!)?

Having been hugely impressed by Teams so far, I would support the winding down of SfB.
Migrate the functionality, do Teams video calls on the mobile apps, and do away with the traditional Skype client. This is far nicer.
I agree with edev on this. The functions of the SfB client should be moved to Teams. This would give one place for chat/voice/video and eliminate a lot of duplication between the clients.
And currently I show as "away" if the client is minimized for too long. If it followed the same behavior as Skype for Business that would be super useful
This would greatly improve our workflow!
If I am at my computer working in other applications, Teams should not mark me as "Away". I'm very much NOT "Away". Base the Away status on computer idle (as in, actually away-from-keyboard).
(A customizable Away time setting would be nice, too)
The integration between the two doesn't seem to extend as far as presence. During a Skype 4 Business conference call, you show as "In A Conference Call" on Skype and available on "Teams".

This have to be fixed or it is just like a new Yammer channel!

yes please I hate being signed on to a million separate programs. Let me knock out skype with msft teams

Let's be honest: this is largely yammer 2.0 and I expect when this goes live to see an active push to get people off of yammer.
Few more tweaks and you could say the same of Skype, really.

Glad to see this topic being addressed. In addition to Skype for Business (old Lync) we now have Yammer messaging/newsgroups and TFS Team Chat as well. What is the Microsoft plan to consolidate all this Yammer-like conversations into one storage/knowledge retention facility?
When I lock my WIndows 7 computer, my Teams client is still thinking it is 'active' because I am not getting any notifications on my phone. Locking my computer should be a clear indication that I am no longer 'active' there.
Allow for custom presences like Demo , Client call, Lunch, whatever status as you can set through the registry for Skype for Business with a text file. The built in option would be best, but the registry with text file works as well.
