Thanks for all of your feedback. The team has been hard at work on improving notifications, and has added more options for Teams & Channels. You can find detailed information on configuring and managing notifications in Teams here: https://support.office.com/article/manage-notifications-in-teams-1cc31834-5fe5-412b-8edb-43fecc78413d

This UserVoice item has evolved to cover many other suggestions over time. We are setting this item to completed, but please feel free to upvote/comment on the items below, as well as create additional ones that may be missing.

    1) Integrate with Windows 10 Notifications Center – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/16950997

    2) Integrate with MacOS notifications – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/16941685

    3) Visual notifications are easily missed – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/18161440

    4) Improve audio notifications – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/18931243

    5) Follow channels by default – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/18626221

    6) Turn off preview in notification toasts – https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/32624690

    Thanks,
    Alex & the Teams team

  2. Integrate with MacOS notifications

Notifications built into the OS (which all apps I've seen use other than Outlook and now Teams) are more functional and allow for more user control. Most importantly, they honor Do Not Disturb settings, which is critical.

  4. Increase duration for desktop notifications

The channel/team on which the notification has been made should stay more/better/longer visible so that you won't miss one.

With the rollout of support for native Windows 10 OS native notifications, you are able to increase banner duration from 5 seconds all the way to 5 minutes. To learn more, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-your-notifications-style-in-teams-0da93820-93d0-4da3-86b6-fc28d19908e3 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-windows-easier-to-hear-9c18cfdc-63be-2d47-0f4f-5b00facfd2e1.

Native Mac notifications are in the process of rolling out, and once you have that build, you can also do the same for Mac notifications. (see https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/17679433-persistent-notification)

  5. Turn off message preview in notification toast

Currently, when I receive a message, a preview of this message is displayed in the notification toast. As we will be using Teams at work, it would be great for privacy if I had the option to turn off these previews, so the notification toast will just say "New Message from XY"

To provide you with even more privacy, Teams now lets you turn off message previews in your desktop notifications. Message previews are on by default. To turn them off, go to your profile picture, select Settings > Notifications > Show message preview. From here, switch the toggle to off.

  6. Notifications for all messages in a channel

There is no clear way how to enable all notifications in channels. I have channel where I am interested in all messages.

I hope this brightens your Friday — your feature request is here! Our hardworking engineers have been working on this for weeks and we’re happy to report it released yesterday.

To set notifications for all messages in a channel, just click the little ellipses next to the channel name and choose “Follow this channel.”

If this made your Friday, please tweet to us! You can send the tweet to me (@skprufo) or just include the #MicrosoftTeams hashtag, and I’ll make sure it gets to our dev team.

THANK YOU for making Teams better and better with your awesome feedback. You guys are the best.

    Sincerely,
    Suphatra
    Microsoft Teams

  7. Ability to Mute a Conversation Thread

Please allow the ability for individual users to mute replies to a thread they have participated in. Allow this to be a toggle located under the three dot menu or an additional hover button.

Muting of conversation threads is available to the public. Just like muting a chat, turning off notifications to a channel conversation will stop you from receiving updates for that specific conversation.

To turn off notifications for specific conversations

    • Go to the beginning of a conversation in a channel
    • Go to the top right corner of the original message in the conversation thread and select More options … > Turn off notifications.
  8. Automatic DND when presenting

Automatically set status to Do Not Disturb/DND when presenting or sharing screen like on Skype. It's very inconvenient when banners for personal chat notifications come up during meetings, sometimes the content is not to be shared with others. If not that then allow for the option to not show actual text in the banner notifications.

Status is automatically set to Presenting in Teams when screen sharing is started during a Teams meeting.

For other suggestions mentioned in the comments, please follow the following UserVoice items:

    - Mute notifications when on a video or audio call: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/40228330
    - Respect focus assist: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16950997

    Thanks.

  9. Mute a channel - (Mute Chat is complete)

I'd love to keep groups/channels in my list, but mute a channel so I don't get those. I get notified whenever some tags a channel eg @General, it's super distracting!

Also would like the possibility to mute a group chat, so no sound or mobile notification should be received for a user that chooses to mute some group chat.

Muting both a channel and a chat are now available to the public.

When you mute a channel, you will continue to get notifications for the following:
    - @Team mentions in that channel
    - Replies and reactions to conversations which you have taken part in that channel
    - @Channel mention of other channels in that muted channel

What you will stop receiving notifications for are:
    - All new posts in that channel
    - Replies to those posts in that channel
    - @Channel mentions of that channel

    To mute a particular channel,
    - Go to the channel overflow menu (triple dot) and choose “Channel notifications”
    - Select “Off” for all the menu options you see in that “Channel notifications” dialog box

    Thanks!

  10. Flashing Icon in task bar for unread messages

Teams icon pinned in taskbar doesn't blink orange anymore when I receive new messages. I cannot find an option to turn this. Was this removed?

  11. Persistent notification on Mac

I'm using Mac and one annoying thing is that I'm not getting notified of new messages in team channels (whether I'm mentioned or not) because I missed the banner in the top right of the screen, either from being away from my desk or focusing on my second screen. The red icon is added to the actual application icon in the dock menu when I get a direct chat but there should be something here to indicate that team chats have new messages

We are happy to share Teams now supports native notifications on Mac OS 10.15 and above. Users can now switch to Mac notifications styles in Teams and set alert type to Alerts by going to the Apple menu at the top left of your Mac device, select System Preferences>Notifications>Alert Style = alerts.

To learn more about changing your notification style in Teams, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-your-notifications-style-in-teams-0da93820-93d0-4da3-86b6-fc28d19908e3.

  12. Notification for connectors

I am not getting any notification when a connector post to a channel. For example a JIRA post to a channel, I would like to get notified by this.

This is checked on Windows 10 Mobile app.

Its here! Thanks for all your patience on this feature as we worked out the kinks and got it out the door. Connector notifications are now live and there is no additional configuration you need to do to enable them. If you follow a channel, you should already be seeing notifications trigger for messages posted by connectors to those channels. If not, go ahead and follow a channel with a connector in it to see it in action. Please let us know if you run into an issues and we hope this helps your teams work more efficiently!

    INSTRUCTIONS:
To get notifications for your connectors, just click on any channel that you want to follow and select the ellipses next to the channel name. Then choose “Follow channel”.

Please make sure you have your notifications setting set to actually GIVE you notifications! To do that, click on your avatar…

  13. Respect Focus Assist

Teams should respect Windows Focus Assist settings. I'm not even sure how apps are allowed to override Windows settings like this.
I put Windows Focus Assist into Alarms Only mode so I could record screen captures and I Teams kept popping up notifications over my application. I had to completely exit Teams so I could finish my task.

  14. Visual notification in systray of unread message (for both Mac and PC)

When there is an unread message, it would be very helpful if the systray icon could have a visual indicator that something is unread.

  16. Multiple Notifications Bugs

    Hello,

We have been testing Microsoft Teams for almost a week now, while we love the product; however, it is proving to be counter productive when it stops sending notifications, we are using alternative means to notify each other to check messages on MS Teams.

What we noticed for example is that if discussions continue in a thread for over a day, no new notifications whatsoever are being triggered. In some occasions, even though we have an ongoing discussion, notifications stop, but only work if you tag the other person, but again, this is not a new thread, so it…

  17. Desktop notifications for Windows

Need to have notifications in the action centre on Windows 10 also preferably make the desktop client a UWP app (I understand it is not currently) for full integration of notifications and (hopefully) Cortana

  18. Teams does not respect "Do Not Disturb" on MacOS.

When I set my Mac to "DO NOT DISTURB" Teams still pops up notifications. This is really annoying when I'm sharing my screen in a meeting.

  19. Allow email notifications for more notification types

More options on notifications. Would be better if all notifications had an email option. Could easily be done via a check box next to how you would like to be notified. This applies to everything; team notifications, personal mentions, chats, etc. A lot in my organization have complained about missing things because there is not an option of email for most notifications.
