I am marking this as partially done to let you know a new reactions bar with Like, Heart, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Angry has begun rolling out to all users.

Add option to make emoticons smaller or be turned off
Would like the ability to turn off all emoticons. Every chat application I've ever used (Skype, Lync, Slack, Hipchat) allow this option. Or/and make the emoticons smaller.
It would also be nice to have the option to minimize an emoji or resize an emoji within the chat feed once a user has posted it. Currently ‘edit’ or ‘delete’ is available per message, possiblly if ‘minimize’ or ‘collapse’ option would make this possible? This would enable the viewer of the feed to create their own visual experience/not have to look at emoji if they don’t want to.
1,092 votesThe ability to turn off emojis is still being worked upon.
Also, there is work to create a compact mode which will also help reduce white space… which in turn will impact some of the complaints are far as wasted space from the emojis as well, that have been voiced in the comments.
Stay tuned for more details.

Expand emojis to reflect the diversity of ethnicity, gender, sexuality and disability of your user base
Emoji set is limited and almost exclusively white and male. This doesn't reflect the make up of most modern workplaces and certainly doesn't reflect the make up of your global user base.

Ability to hide or minimize gifs (at user level)
I like a lot about Teams. However, one of the nice features of your main competitor is that on things like GIFs you can minimize them. GIFs are fun, but after the initial fun they are annoying to keep seeing auto playing in the feed. So a way to minimize them in the feed would be great.

Facepalm like reaction needed
A new set of reactions to substitute like functionality is just great. However what we need is a facepalm emoji reaction to convey the true reactions to many posts - let's make it happen!

An ability to change the color of the emojis
I'm a brown person, and I'd like to be able to choose a brown hand for the thumbs up sign and some of the face emoji's. The globe is a colorful place

Use well-known names (short codes) for emoticons/emoji
Amongst others, Github and Slack use a common naming schema for emoji. Teams has a different naming schema for at least part of the emoji set, for example:
":ok_hand:" - not present in Teams
":disappointed:" - can't even be typed, as soon as ":d" is typed it becomes a Skype emoticonPlease use a common naming convention that a lot of people have already gotten used to.

Allow for randomized giphy selection using a shortcut.
We're supposed to be working... so selecting the perfect Giphy is a bit of a distraction. Allowing for a randomized Giphy selection (based on keyword) by using a shortcut is something your competition offers, and is missed dearly by our team. Part of the fun was/is being surprised by what pops up.

Stop Converting Text to Emoticons
If I type D:, as in the D-drive of a computer, it converts it to an emoji. If I hit the backspace it completely deletes it, but doesn't undo the emoji conversion. I'd like a way to be able to disable the conversion of text-to-emoji (and not have it display incorrectly for a recipient) or have the option to backspace when a piece of text is converted to emoji and have it revert back to what it was.
Thanks!

Improve Giphy library!
Giphy keyboards on other business comm apps have amuch more extensive library if gifs as well as a much better search feature (i.e. Slack)
Please improve the giphy keyboard - we all love using it but the Teams one is quite unuseful!
