Prepare meeting breakout rooms
As a creator of a meeting I want to prepare my breakout rooms before the meeting gets started. So i already assigned people to rooms before the meeting is going to start.
When the meeting is in progress i Only need to open the rooms.
Next to that you want to send documents directly from the main room to the breakout rooms
Thank you for your feedback! We are happy to announce that capability for the meeting organizer to perform breakout room configurations and participant assignments prior to the start of the meeting is now available to users who have opted into Public Preview.
To see feature details, please visit https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-public-preview/now-in-public-preview-pre-meeting-room-creation-and-participant/m-p/2775307.
For details on switching to the Microsoft Teams Public Preview version, please see : https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview.
We look forward to your preview feedback!
It would be a great feature to have it.
You can prepare meeting rooms in advance even though it is a bit tricky.
See to it that you start the meeting in advance (the day before..)
Log in with at least two users (I have several accounts and invite one to the meeting as guest)
Once you are two users in the meeting you are able to set up the break-out rooms, as many as you want up to 50.
Having done that, assign your guest account to Room 1 and then open it.
Right click on the green open sign and chose to enter the room (with your other ID, the one that has arranged the meeting.)
Once entered, bring up the chat funktion of Room 1 and post whatever file you want to have prepared and ready before the meeting.
(what also happens when you open the chat function it gets visible in Teams Chat function (the icon in the left column of this specific Team site. Here you can easily jump between the different chats for say Room 1, Room 2 and Room 3 if you have repeated the steps above firstly for each room.
If you have the same file that you want to place in the three different room I guess it is necessary to give them slightly different names.
Thats it - doing it right now for my education class tomorrow for 15 persons :)
Yes, one more thing - you cannot assign all the attendees that are invited to rooms in advance, this you have to do live in the meeting when everybody has joined.
It would be nice to set rooms with specific people before the meeting - not in the meeting. Thank you.
Please make it possible to create breakout rooms before the meeting gets started. This would be very helpful and less stressfull during the meeting. !!!

Can't believe we're still waiting for this - come on Microsoft - this is a no brainer surely!
I only use Teams because Zoom is not allowed with my middle and high schoolers. The process for creating the break out rooms is VERY clunky and takes up so much time. It would be great to be able to program them in advance like I can on Zoom for my university class. The idea is nice on Teams, but logistically Teams has made it so complicated to create the rooms and adding students one by one as they arrive in class is so complicated and tedious that I have given up on doing so. It's too bad because it's an integral part of my class at the university level thanks to Zoom making it so easy!
I am still amazed that this issue has not been addresses yet. When setting up the meeting through a Team, the list of attendees already exists. We should be able to use the list of those on the Team, or even those invited, to create breakout room for specific people in advance. It is a terrible waste of time to do this during a meeting, or even more annoying to set up separate meetings for those that the facilitator wants to work together.

This would be really useful especially if participants could select a room to join for themselves. I think of a conference with 150 participants (too many to manage individually). Just like a live conference, I would like to have a number of breakout rooms devoted to different topics or issues. Meeting participants should be able to see a list of the rooms available and select which one they would like to join. When I close the breakout rooms, all participants would be put in the main room for the plenary discussions,
This would be very helpfull during tutoring at our”Saturday school”
In education organizations, this feature is essential. Sometimes you need a large group of teachers to work in smaller groups to focus and give feedback on a specific sensible subject (such as distance learning). It would be nice to set rooms with specific people before the meeting.

I would join my vote to this and, at the risk of repeating something that has already been said, would add that this would make the manual allocation of people to a room a meaningful option. As it stands someone who opts for manual assignment to breakout rooms would need to spend some time setting that in the meeting/seminar, expending vital time and testing students' patience. The counter argument might be that you don't know who will be present until the session starts but a. it would still save time overall, b. this is not always the case c. knowing that you have been allocated to a group and that your personal participation is a planned part of the activity is a powerful driver for engagement.

This feature would be great when you are organizing corporate conferences or larger meetings where you need breakouts for various reasons.
The solution that you can only do this while the meeting is running is taking away your focus and your ability to fully attend the meeting. And it consumes time that could have been spent prior to the meeting/conference/event.
It is a must going forward on order for us not to competitor software which have this feature already in place.

Thank you Alex. To add my own situation: we are preparing for a Global sales kick off event and want to use Teams breakout rooms for enablement activities. Our audience will be split into seven tracks, and we are repeating the event for each major geo (EMEA, Americas, Asia Pacific. With the current functionality that means we have to find 21 different people, each of whom has to create an sen the invite for one meeting, so that in that meeting they as the organiser can control the breakout rooms. Having the ability for one person to create all the meetings and invites and then to delegate the room management/meeting host role to someone else would be a MASSIVE help!

As an Exec Assistant it would be crucial to be able to assign someone to manage rooms on behalf of the meeting organizer (like a producer in Live Events). I schedule meetings from my Exec's calendar but I do not have the ability, once the meeting starts, to make the breakout rooms.

Yes! this is an urgent feature.... The configuration of breakout rooms, needs to be configured before the meeting

Yes this mandatory for education as a teacher i want to prepare my lessons. If the lesson starts my focus should be on the students and my teaching material.
Also multiple organizers as you have multiple presenters would be great!

It would be very helpful to be able to set up rooms in adavnce. Also that not only the meeting owner can do it, but delegate this function to someone. Please allow people in the break out rooms to call someone in. Allow people to switch rooms.
Also - pls include the possibility to have several moderators. I.e facilitators that can administer the different break out rooms.
