Default Files tab of Channel: programmatically provide link
So a similar idea has been posted on the forum for multiple times now but in different ways to approach the end result:
- Ability to modify the default 'Files' tab
- Make it possible to remove and/or rename the default tabs (files & notes)
- Change the location of a channel folder in Sharepoint
- Rename of Team Channel doesn't rename associated Sharepoint files Folder
My request: make it possible (preferably through Graph) to determine the folder of the Files Tab in a Microsoft Teams Channel programmatically.
not only for
1-new Channels with no SharePoint Folder yet
(think of provisioning new Teams + additional Channels and provide an existing subfolder structure or default documents for the Files Tab of these new Channels)
but also for
2-existing Channels already linked to a SharePoint Folder
(think of changing the folder linked to an existing Channel for migration / cleanup / archiving purposes)
At the moment clicking the Files Tab by a user for the FIRST time:
A => creates a folder if the default Drive of the Group (=default document library of the Team related SharePoint Site), does not contain a root level sub folder yet with the EXACT name of he Channel at the moment of first time clicking
B => links the Channel to an existing Folder if there is a Folder with the EXACT name of the Channel at the moment of first time clicking
Please give us the option to determine the linked Folder of the Files Tab.
Agreed. This is a big issue as creating multiple channels for our consulting client files/conversations will wreak havoc in our SharePoint site.

I would like to see this even more flexible: allow the Files Tab to be linked or redirected to any document repository VIEW in Sharepoint.
This would allow us to use a shared document repository across multiple Team sites. Right now we have a problem with file fragmentation -- we have proliferation of Team sites, each with its own separate Sharepoint repository. This means we have to look here, there, and everywhere to find our files; since we often to not remember which Team we put it in.
If we could have one structured SharePoint repository; and connect to it from multiple teams; it would help eliminate this problem.
Yes we can currently do that by using custom tabs that link to the sharepoint view; but we still end up with a separate "files" area that is either empty; which is counter-intuitive for the users; or creates a place to lose our files.
