Teams meeting lobby - allow "selected people" to bypass lobby
With the new "Only me" option for bypassing the lobby, this puts huge onus on organisers who might not normally expect to attend a meeting but where the meeting has a requirement to hold particpants int eh lobby.
For example ...
Person A sets up a MS Teams meeting that we will use to teach a random group of students about a topic. Person A sets the lobby to "only me" and invites person B as a "presenter". They also invite 100 random students.
On the delivery day Person A arrives and admits person B from the lobby shortly before the start time to complete set up and do final checks. They then admit the student attendees - that's perfect
Imagine that on the delivery day Person A is off sick. Person B is now stuck outside in the lobby with all the students and nobody can access the room (nightmare!)
Currently there is no way person B can access the room from the lobby if Person A is not available for any reason?
So - the request is that in the "bypass lobby" settings please set "specific people" just like we can set specific people to be a presenter, so that specific people can then bypass the lobby and do their set up even if the organiser is not available.
Thank you for your feedback. We have added the option to allow only users who were invited to the meeting to bypass the lobby. To learn more, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-participant-settings-for-a-teams-meeting-53261366-dbd5-45f9-aae9-a70e6354f88e.
We look forward to adding other improvements discussed in the comments in the future.

Couldn't find an answer but this was the closest I got to my situation. I have set registration on for a webinar. I would like only registered users to bypass the lobby and be admitted directly to the meeting. How to Use Lobby Bypass for Teams Meeting to Admit only people who have registered. Any help would be appreciated.
For now, this "People I invite" is unavailable in channel meetings. We only schedule meetings in channels and really need this options in channel meetings as well.
can someone please define what a guest is?
We also need a way for a select few in a meeting of 200+ to be able to bypass the lobby. In addition, we are looking for a way that not everyone is allowed to admit new participants.
@Alex: Thank you for your information. Could you inform me via EMail (firstname.lastname@example.org) please, if the update is available "adding the option to allow only users who were invited to the meeting to bybass the lobby"?
I don't believe that your team understood the request. Educators are looking for a way to only allow the other educators in the meeting, but not the students. You either need to add a allow presenters only or a specific list option for bypassing the lobby. Students should not be in meetings un monitored and are generally invited to the meetings.
Have a Great Day,

Great to see the Engineering Team working on this! However I wanted to echo previous posters' comments that the ask is to allow Specific People to bypass the lobby, similar to the option to only allow specific people to be presenters.

Have to agree that this is a necessary addition, and that what you say you're doing bears no resemblance to the request. We need specific people, other presenters or moderators or whoever we choose to appoint, to be able to bypass the lobby and let other attendees in.
Todays class was a disaster as a result of your lobby restrictions which somehow were magically applied by my school board today. My class of 30 students are individually added as “members” of the team. I start a meeting and they (until today) roll into the meeting. Note- No one else can join the meeting - even via a link- because they are not “members” so I don’t worry about “teams bombing”. Life was good.
I teach online 100% of the time using a wired network but my students mostly use wifi for teams meetings and they often find they get disconnected during meetings/lessons. Up until today they simply rejoin the meeting. Sometimes kids become disconnected from the meeting multiple times but each time they rejoin on their own. Alas, not any more as a result of your “ lobby lockdown “. Each time they disconnect they go back into the lobby and I have to let them in. Even worse - they loose the ability to let me know they are in the lobby because they can’t use the chat to tell me they are locked out. How is this lobby feature an improvement? It is impeding their learning. Please return control of the team to the teacher. Get rid of the lobby or let me add the names of my students under ‘who can bypass the lobby’
thanks alot thats what im looking for........
i'm totally agree with you , i have issue similar to that you have,
some student from other class bypass the lobby without my permission , so i must to choos onle me to bypass the lobby and admit the student individually one by one

Hi Alex et al.
I wanted echo the comments here regarding the need to allow preselected specific people to bypass a meeting lobby.
This however, does not mean that I want everybody who is specifically invited to the meeting (instead of being invited via adding a Team Channel) to be able to bypass the lobby.
I would think that you would it design it so the options look similar to the option to pre-select specific people to be presenters ahead of time.
Also, in addition to having the option to pre-select specific people who can bypass the lobby, it would be great if I was able to pre-select the people I want as presenters, and then also have an option to allow Presenters to be able to bypass the lobby. That way, I could avoid having to add the same people in two locations.

Alex - I don't believe the feature you are mentioning is even close to what is being requested - not going into the obvious issue of security. If this is an additional feature/option - it is welcome. However, what is being requested here is granular meeting lobby controls that are present in some form on competing platforms - which seems absent from your response (and more worrying to see you mark it as "Working on it").
I hope this issue isn't closed out when the option to allow all invited attendees to bypass the Lobby is implemented.

Please add this feature as this is concerning the productivity of the application.
there should be an option to bypass the lobby by selecting specific people
Alex - your response is not the right answer to the request!!! It's really necessary for school staff to be able to organise a meeting and allow other members of staff (particularly if they are also team owners) to bypass the lobby, by selecting specific people, whilst leaving everyone else invited to the meeting (i.e. students!) in the lobby! Please make this a priority!
We simply need a way to control the meeting if the owner is not in the meeting. Owners in the channel should be able to take control of the meeting, assign roles etc. They need to start in the lobby when they join the meeting. All Channel owners should bypass the lobby or be able to run the meeting. I believe this is the request. Thank you

Hi Alex, thanks for your response. Hopefully you get a chance to read the comments. You describe adding an option to allow users who were invited to the meeting to bypass the lobby. That is NOT what this thread is discussing. Some meetings have a need to assign individuals who can bypass the lobby or 'start the meeting'. Not just for anyone who is invited to the meeting, there needs to be more control in place. Choosing specific people unrelated to the attendee list is a requirement. Thanks.

My use case is I have a board meeting where all the board members should bypass the lobby, while presenters of course should wait there. And then the board members need to see who are waiting in the lobby in order let the right presenter in for each specific agenda item.

I am deeply concerned that the feature Alex describes in the Feb 5 post is NOT what is requested here.
We NEED a limited number of selected meeting instructors/facilitators to be able to start the meeting, but NOT every student in the class.

agree and support this as an high priority enhancement - without it zoom is just an smoother product choice
My companies Executive Assistants are using Zoom due this functionality not being available in Teams. Please add ASAP!
