Optimize Audio Settings for Music Performance- advanced audio settings to enable live music
Please include advanced audio settings for live music. If you suppress background noise and can't change the function, accompaniment or singer cancel each other out and you cannot hear both. In Zoom, if you follow these steps...
Check the ‘Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original Sound” from microphone’. This turns off more of the software designed for speech but un-helpful for music.
Match all three settings as shown to DISABLE both ‘Suppress Persistent Background Noise” AND ‘Suppress Intermittent Background Noise’. Set ‘Echo Cancellation’ to ‘Auto’ as opposed to ‘Aggressive’
We have found a workaround that may be helpful in the meantime but it is less than ideal. If you monitor your live music inputs through a DAW (sound recording software), then go to your teams event and select share content (up arrow at the top right), then select include system sound, then select the screen with your DAW, the sound from your live source will be treated by teams as system sound. You can now mute your microphone as you wont need this and your live source will effectively go in the back door of teams and wont get swamped by the noise suppressors. Hope this makes sense and helps someone.
Yes i agree, please add this option!
Zoom have a option to "Turn on Original Sound", and it works well. It would be nice if Microft Teams had the same option. Sometimes i need to record the audio from a person that is connected with me. But the quality is just "ok".

This has been a CONSTANT frustration for me. There seems to be a noticeable difference even from the beginning of the school year in the amount of audio ducking that occurs when I am trying to teach my choir. I have to choose between singing or playing piano. Prior to the audio properties update, my students never complained about the issue. Now, it's basically impossible to play the piano and sing along with it.
Just to be clear, I have noise suppression turned OFF. I basically want the microphone to pick up and send everything in the room. This is NOT what happens, and there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference between settings
Would be great in these Covid times to allow live music to be streamed with QUALITY. Now when working from home, all social activities are online and that includes some music events too. The audio is terrible though when playing music. An option to prioritize sound over video would help a lot.

HI Jennifer, Teams crew and Freya
I work for Essex Music Service as a Peri Tutor, but since the pandemic has happened , I am in charge of Technical support for all Tutors and Parents.
We started using Teams back in April when the pandemic hit for our online lesson which totalled over 600 lessons a week. As Freya has pointed out we also have a very varied list of Tutors teaching anything from a Drum kit to a Flute, and the ability to a) Enable original audio, b) disabling background noise suppression - both persistent and intermittent as well as disabling the echo cancelation, is paramount to our students having the best experience they can in uncertain times.
Zoom have already installed this on their platform, please can you seriously think about updated Teams to include this vital settings, as more and more Lessons happen, and more and more companies and organisations use online software and applications like Teams.
It is working fairly well for most of our tutors, but could be a lot better. I hope this can be a consideration for a future update.
Hello Jennifer and Teams crew,
My name is Freya and I am the Digital Learning Coordinator at Trinity Laban, a music conservatoire. We have opted to use Teams as an institution as it currently feels like a good, secure platform for teaching. However, a few of our teachers are running into issues with their audio setup, as obviously audio input from a string instrument is different from audio input from a speaking voice.
I strongly encourage that you follow up on Jennifer’s feedback above, as it will make all the difference to our student experience and ensure that we stay as Teams users for the future! I really hope a member of your team can look into enabling individual users to adjust their own audio optimisation settings, including a) enabling original audio, b) disabling background noise suppression - both persistent and intermittent, and c) disabling echo cancellation.
As we also have normal meetings, it is important that each individual user is able to adjust their settings to suit them as and when they need it.
I really hope you take this feedback on board, and many thanks for a great tool so far.
