Enable "atomic swap" of current General channel with a different channel
Teams change over time; the use of channels change over time. While the membership of the General channel may remain useful, its actual use as a "general" channel for a team may become... less than useful. The specific example: a large team is split into multiple teams in different organizations with different management. The former coworkers still have a strong social affinity and chatter away on "General", but the "general" elements of the Team really only apply to the people who remained with the original pre-reorg reporting structure.
The strong popularity of https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/18968953-rename-general-channel is directly relevant here. I understand that the existence of General is mandatory in the current design.
I propose adding the ability to atomically swap the current General channel with some other channel already defined for the team. Suppose I create a channel called "Former Teammates" and add to it just the current members of the team. Atomically swapping that channel with the General channel would leave the "Former Teammates" channel with the full original membership, and all the history, of what was "General"; the new General channel would just have the newly-setup membership.
