Change Cultural Unethical Emoji
Hello Microsoft Teams,
I wish to inform your team that the YES emoji in motion (the thumb moving up and down) is an insult in the Ghanaian culture. The meaning of this emoji is similar to the 'F' word. Even worse, it is an insult to womanhood and highly abominable to use in any decent and civilised conversation in Ghana. Therefore, to see anyone use this emoji during Teams or Skype meeting is an uncomfortable experience for any Ghanaian, especially students and professionals.
It is something that needs a change now as Microsoft Teams and Skype meetings have become part of our daily lives. Imagine feeling insulted intentionally or unintentionally during sessions on Teams and Skype every single day.
I have attached a video of the emoji of concern.
I know this is a contextual issue and your team may not fully understand how insulting this emoji is. Yet, I believe Microsoft does not wish to insult its customers or disrespect any culture. I hope you will consider doing the right thing now that this had come to your attention.
Finally, I hope you will not put this request to a vote, but act urgently.
I hope in the future Microsoft as a global organisation with users all over the world would be sensitive about the figures of its products.
Thank God this has been raised already. I've been trying to get the attention of Microsoft on twitter to address this issues but to no avail.
