PLEASE fix desktop app performance on macOS!! Constant high CPU usage and memory leaks!
I'm running Teams desktop app on macOS Catalina and the performance is TERRIBLE! If I get on a single 1-on-1 video call, the fan on my 2017 MacBook Pro starts spinning like crazy, CPU usage goes up to about 85%, and app begins to use over 1GB of RAM! To put it in perspective, I can get on a Zoom call with 10 other people, CPU usage is at less than 20%, and memory usage never passes 300MB
I've read on other forums to disable GPU acceleration in the settings, but that has only marginally helped.
Please fix your app!
Thank you for your reports. We released client and service updates this week, that address many MacOS-specific performance issues. We are also aware of recent performance issues with Microsoft Teams meetings, especially on laptops and when using external monitors.
The team is working to resolve these issues. In the meantime, please find troubleshooting information here: https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/troubleshoot/known-issues/teams-slow-video-meetings-laptops-4k.
It’s possible to get a better cpu usage by removing incoming video, but hey what good is teams then....
There must be an issue with the codec or something, disabling gpu rendering doesn’t solve anything at all.
Seriously - this is not partially done at all.
Not sure on what planet you would have to be to consider it anywhere near solved.
Please don't consider this 'Partially Done' - for Mac users, this is not resolved to any level. If anything, I'd say the latest release might be slightly worse. Certainly no better. Our business runs on Mac (MacBook Pro's) and we're all experiencing constant thrashing when using Teams - it's a horrendous distraction during calls. We'll be switching to Zoom if this isn't resolved soon.
I totally agree. From 100% to 64% in 48 minutes. How is anybody able to work a full workday like this? Something must be done soon.
I've not disabled GPU hardware acceleration or turn off new meeting experience, and upgraded to 28778 and the CPU performance is now worse for me. I can't interact with any other windows while Teams is running with presentation. Basically the UI and locks up.
28778 finally turned up yesterday. Marginally better if you have new meeting experience disabled and GPU disabled. takes about 70-80% with a presentation. Still roughly 2x more CPU requirements than using Zoom to display the same material. Guess this was the fix being referred to...maybe not because Microsoft does not talk about release numbers or provide numbers in release notes etc. Makes it difficult to understand what states of upgrades apply to.
MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
Processor: 1,1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB
Same problem when using desktop app and browser
MBP 2019 16' here. Same problem. Fix it please. Extra focus on this in this freaking pandemic.
Just chiming in on this, Teams is a nightmare to use on my 2020 MBP.
It also has the nice side affect blocking up my Mac's WiFi connection so much that I can't get a ping out and have to renew DHCP to get back online
The UX is barely tolerable anyway but when coupled with unstable video and randomly killing my internet connections it makes Teams the worst piece of software i've ever had to use.
After reading the troubleshooting information, it seems that your advice is to turn off everything that makes using a laptop convenient, and allowing Teams to eat all of the hardware like Jabba the Hutt. Got it.
Experiencing this same issue withTeams effecting the CPU's performance a new MacBook Air running Catalina.

I agree with all, we work on Macbookpro (2017 and others) and the problem is the same.
Can't open Teams descktop app, we must use online version but it's less pratical.
it's a shame, I convinced my boss not to buy zoom for the benefit of teams. Because I am convinced of the performance of this tool
Please, do something !

this is still an issue. Get your act together
my 2.4GHz 8Core i9, 32GB, 8GB Radeon pro macbook pro can't run a half-day of MS Teams without locking up and becoming inoperable...
Just horrific!!! Please Microsoft - fix these bugs!!!
FIX IT!!!!!!!!! This is driving me and many colleagues nuts
Ps: it’s a shame that you leave the Apple users waiting seven months for a important function like “include audio system”!!!
Performance is very very bad on my Macbook Pro. When I speak to others here my fan through my mic
Still not fix it that performance extremely bad. Have to wait 6 seconds to start screen sharing and to switch between windows, cpu on 100% with i7 cpu! And dedicaded gpu!
