PLEASE fix desktop app performance on macOS!! Constant high CPU usage and memory leaks!
I'm running Teams desktop app on macOS Catalina and the performance is TERRIBLE! If I get on a single 1-on-1 video call, the fan on my 2017 MacBook Pro starts spinning like crazy, CPU usage goes up to about 85%, and app begins to use over 1GB of RAM! To put it in perspective, I can get on a Zoom call with 10 other people, CPU usage is at less than 20%, and memory usage never passes 300MB
I've read on other forums to disable GPU acceleration in the settings, but that has only marginally helped.
Please fix your app!
Thank you for your reports. We released client and service updates this week, that address many MacOS-specific performance issues. We are also aware of recent performance issues with Microsoft Teams meetings, especially on laptops and when using external monitors.
The team is working to resolve these issues. In the meantime, please find troubleshooting information here: https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/troubleshoot/known-issues/teams-slow-video-meetings-laptops-4k.

My whole team of 12+ has the same issue as the above users.

You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.13565 (64-bit). It was last updated on 5/31/20.

We are also having the same issue. Signing out and in again does not resolve it unfortunately.
I agree - Teams performance on MacOS is abysmal. Completely destroys performance on both an 8 core 2019 MacBook Pro 16" and a 4 core 10th gen i7 2020 MacBook Pro 13". It's horrendous.

Same problem here. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Catalina and i7 quad core 16GB RAM. Performance is fine on every app, just Teams that maxes out my Mac.

Awful experience. Need a fix for that.

Same for me in Winows. I disabled GPU acceleration and the interface got a lot better.

i have the same issue macOS Catalina
Fan on my Mac runs constantly when Teams is running, stops when I turn off Teams. The sound of the fan causes distortion to audio in Teams meetings. Very annoying

Please fix this, I work for a company with almost 500 Macs with Mojave and Catalina. Catalina users are experiencing this issue too and it is honestly a terrible user experience to have this go off, even on a brand new system. Disabling the GPU acceleration in settings did not do much for users (including myself).
Please fix this! It is bringing down a 6 core 16" MBP!
Same issue here

I experience the same issue, to me it seems like it is related to when someone else is typing.

Recently my colleagues and I noticed that the UI in Teams is getting more and more unresponsive over time and even completely unusable at certain moments.
Cases where this happens:
- Opening a (group) chat and trying to type a message. The application will take up to 10 seconds before the UI becomes responsive.
Even after letting Teams "recover" for some while it's still incredibly difficult to type a message. I can type full sentences before they are visible in the chat area.
- Switching between chats or teams triggers the above behaviour. In addition it freezes the UI completely.
- After leaving a group (video) call the behaviour seems to be worse (could just be a coincidence)
It almost feels like Teams is loading something in the background. Like it is somehow keeping the application busy with too many refreshes or checks and just delay the commands I send to it.
You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.9271. It was last updated on 22/05/2020.

Exactly the same thing for me too with a quad-core i7 and 16 GB RAM....

As soon as video starts Teams just hogs CPU and general performance plummets, do not have the same experience with Zoom or Slack video calls.
Please give this your top attention Microsoft
