Custom Usersettings for display names in Teams
Dear Teams Community,
there are a lot of ideas about how to handle the names in Teams (displayname, firstname lastname etc.). Many suggested changes/ideas fix it only for one group and their requirements.
What do you think about the following idea:
A user should be able to set in the Teams preferences which name shemata should be used in the client interface. All properties are existing in AzureAD (Firstame, Lastname, displayname, (nickname?!)).
Result would be the perfect view for each user and happy users!
If you agree please vote for this idea and share it.
Thanks for your support!
I totally agree. Slack allows this. I use Slack as a teacher. I often have my students roleplay and run simulations. When we do they can change their display names to be their character in the simulation. I'd love to switch to teams but probably won't until this is a possibility because it is far too much trouble to try to remember who is playing what character. Also, in Slack we can change our avatars which is something that many of them do along with their names for each simulation.

We have done tests with protected spaces in the Displayname, works in the activity feed for the headline of an entry but ugly on may othere places like banners. They show an " " for the sprace " ".

I agree we need a feature in Teams to handle with display names of people. In many of cases, to have just an individual setting in each client IMHO would be to complex. Each company typically has its own form of salutation. In Germany sometimes it is the polite form of "you", where you want to display the salutation and last name. Nowadays in modern companies they may use the "personal you" and want just to display the first name.
However I think a possibility to setup that centrally via policy e.g. in AAD administration would be great. In top of that, if everybody can overwrite this in its client, would be fine.
