Give users the ability to override the Initials Icon with the correct initials, display name and/or picture.
Give users the ability to override the Initials Icon with the correct initials, display name and/or picture. Also, the Initials Icon is sometimes backwards when working in applications within the teams environment. For example, sometimes my initials are displayed correctly as JS and other times, I will see SJ instead.

In our Teams environment, I have a picture showing for most things, in the Planner app, when looking at the Board view, I see my picture, but if I switch to List view, I get my last and middle initials. It's not even consistent within the same app! Agree this should be fixed across the board!
We have two team members, with the same first and second name initials, but reversed. E.g. like this: Mark Dexter and David Mackay (not their real names). In Teams their circle icons show like this
Mark Dexter MD
David Mackay DM
In Planner they are the other way around
Mark Dexter DM
David Mackay MD
This is highly confusing when we share a Planner board at the daily Teams standup! Please, Microsoft, adopt a consistent approach to the initials order across all Office apps.

I agree - Initials are not get from right place
While Teams is a very good solution, it is EXTREMELY frustrating how poorly designed the algorithms that populate user initials are throughout O365. My initials aren’t even consistent, and are still wrong in multiple places AND there is no way for me to adjust the initials in my profile.
As an engineer, I empathize with people who absolutely despise technology because of the total and utter tone-deafness by tech companies towards the user experience and the difficulty in even reporting these issues, let alone getting a human response by a person with even the most basic understanding of the problem.
How a company can make tens of thousands a year off my employer-paid MSDN account back in the day and yet still make it all but impossible to even report this issue — which I’m under absolutely no illusion will result in a root cause analysis (let alone any shame from management on accepting that many of the core assumptions and processes are fundamentally broken) — is sadly a testament to the state of tech in 2021…you’ll charge full price and allegedly employ a bunch of people to work on it…but never actually fix some of the easiest and most obvious flaws.
Our users have a display name of Last Name, First Name MI (middle initial). For whatever strange reason Microsoft has programmed to show initials based off the display name and uses the middle initial instead of first name if MI is entered. Please Microsoft, look up the definition of initials and change it to be the first letter of First Name + first letter of Last Name. Initials should NOT be first letter of the first word in the display name (in our case the last name) + middle initial.
-First Name: John
-Middle Initial: D
-Last Name: Smith
-Display Name: Smith, John D
-Current Initials in O365: SD
-Desired Initials in O365: JS or JDS
Please change how initials are generated or give users the ability to change their initials. It is silly explaining to users that their initials are first letter of last name + middle initial instead of real initials (first letter of First Name + first letter of Last Name) and their only option is to use a picture so initials don't show.
Also allow the colour to be changed by user. We have 2 people with the same initials, showing with very similar colours, making it difficult to distinguish them at a glance. Finally, make the initials consistent across all of 365 - the colours and initials in Teams should be the same as those on emails, word documents etc etc.

It would be nice to set this information from the Azure/Active Directoy field "initials"

This may be possible from Android or something, but I do not have an Android device that I am allowed to use Teams on. It would be helpful if initials were under Settings. I believe our initials are shown using the middle initial and last name initial. This doesn't work at all.
I believe the initials show are automatically taken from the display name of the users. I agree, Microsoft should change this throughout their software offering to use initials from the first name and last name of user accounts - not the display name!
