Toggle to not include Channel members as Optional Attendees in Meetings
When I create a meeting in Teams and select a Channel, anyone @mentioned in the channel that is not added to the meeting is automatically added as an Optional Attendee. It would be helpful to have a toggle I can flip and/or default in my settings, to only invite individuals I've added.
I interact with lots of groups on various projects (channels) and end up with a lot of people in meetings they don't need to be part of. As such I've had to revert back to Outlook to schedule my Teams meetings as it's more important I have control of who's invited than history the meeting occurred within the Teams Channel.
Oh my, it would be really nice if Microsoft heard our voices, this bug is horrible! My students get invited to participate on meetings they weren't even invited to.

This is exactly what is needed. We should be able to create a meeting in a Channel without automatically inviting every person with access to that Channel. I could have gone without background images and with only 4 video feeds showing in a meeting if I could have had this feature.

My colleague hates me because he must decline dozens of meetings he gets invited as optional attendee.

When will this issue be fixed. Having MS Teams add people as Optional to a meeting is not acceptable. It is disruptive to the people that are being added as well as being disruptive to the meeting. I end up using the first 5 minutes of the meeting telling the "Optional" people that were automatically added that they don't need to attend this meeting and that MS automatically added them. Then they ask me why MS would do that. Please fix this ASAP!

Completely agree. Our organisation has forced Microsoft Teams on us as a solution for distance learning. Schoolkids and students are being invited to classes (meetings) they do not have to attend, and it is very hard to provide reassurance remotely to kids who just want to do their best and not miss any online learning. Not fit for purpose.

We are experiencing the same issue with random invite's to meetings being sent out to non attendee's when selecting only a subset of users in the channel for a meeting. In the meeting invite these non attendee's don't show in the list of partcipants of the meeting but still receive a meeting invite. We appreciate anyone in the channel will be able to join the meeting - but random invite's being sent out when these user's aren't specifically added to a meeting invite is causing us issue's. Logged with Microsoft and brushed of as a bug - with no estimation as to when a fix will be released.
We have experienced where we select a subset of members for a channel meeting so that they will receive the invitation in Outlook. We understand that all members can attend if they want to but are choosing to include those who must attend in the meeting's invitee list along with choosing a channel.
What happens is that external (guest) members who were not one of the 'must attend' members are receiving the emailed invitation anyway! The internal members are not, as expected, but the external members are.
We have been on the phone with Microsoft for several months on this because this is a bug that needs to be fixed. Their "fix" was some PowerShell that our Global Admin would have to run everytime a new external user was added as a member to a TEAM....and on a per TEAM basis. Completely not scalable or manageable in order to produce a consistent, accurate experience for our TEAMS users. We couldn't use it.
To get this fixed properly, we need to vote this issue up so spread the word. This issue that we found, Microsoft acknowledged as a problem...enough to put the time and effort into coming up with a 'workaround', however, also said that the erroneous current functionality is that way 'by design' even though it is wrong.
So, if you haven't experienced this exact scenario, know that it can happen and, if you have external users in your TEAMS, it probably will.
There are several Uservoice entries along these lines that need to be combined.
Please help to vote these up and draw attention to the fact that their votes should be combined into one uservoice entry.

When create the new meeting request in with in the channel ,people randomly gets added in MS teams meeting as optional attendee without inviting, if you turn of this option in channel meeting settings it is very helpful.
This Optional Invite issue in Teams - rouge Collaborators added without consent - needs to be fixed NOW !
I am working in Higher Education with remote working and need to use Teams all the time.
All these common responses on this exact same problem going back many many months and still NO FIX!.
Delay is damaging the MS credibility - in a market place awash with collaborative platforms - and particularly to the generally excellent usability of Teams.
Very frustrating glitch - come on MS get on it!
