I want to be able to mute someone in my headphones without muting them for other participants.
If I have a participant in the room with me who is also logged in on their own device as a participant, I hear their voice in real life and then on the call after some lag.
I want to mute them so I don't hear this lag, without muting them to the other participants or muting my headphones.
Essentially I want just a small amount of the kind of control available in Digital Audio Workstations like Logic or Pro-Tools to mix a higher quality audio and video experience for my meeting participants (i.e. a "Main" channel for everyone and an "Auxilliary" or monitor channel for myself)

Now is the time to get this feature working in Teams....otherwise I fear that many Hybrid Office meetings will take place in Discord instead.... :)

Great idea, I want it.

This is a great idea as I am now sitting in a same room with my colleague and we are on the same call and I am suffering echo as I can't mute just her on Teams or mute my computer (I won't be able to hear the other participants)
The person sitting next to me has a very loud voice ... This feature would make joint meetings a lot easier.
I think, this is not only a great idea, it is in fact a standard functionality in each gaming voice chat program such as TeamSpeak or Discord. I really exprected this feature to be standard in teams, too...

This is a great idea and is really important for how calls are taken these days - each person with their own camera and microphone, but often in the same location
I want it too!!! I need to turn of my annoying colleague only for me!

This would be a life saver, during and after the pandemic. We are not scheduling any presencial meetings with people from other departments because of the virus, but in mine often we have more than one on the same meeting. When somebody says anything, i can hear on my phones and beside me, with delay on the headphones, obviously. Can't take them off because someone else might say something. There must be a way to mute a person just for me. Period. This is the only way to do a meeting with one or more people on the same room.
This would be really great.
We had six of us meeting in a room today, and one person dialling in via teams.
We were all logged in to teams with our devices in front of us so that our dialled-in colleague could see and hear each of us.
In the room itself we were all sitting 1.5m apart from each other to be compliant with Covid restrictions.
Everyone had their microphones un-muted so that our colleague could hear us, but the volumes on our devices turned right down so that we didn't get a nasty feedback loop happening.
Then - if we wanted to hear what she was saying, we would all listen via my laptop's speakers, which meant I had to quickly switch between:
- when she wasn't speaking: my laptop volume muted and everyone in the room's microphones turned on
- when she was speaking: my laptop volume at 100% and everyone in the room's microphone on mute (or staying as quiet as possible), to be able to hear her input.
it's fair to say it was clunky and awkward.
could this be simply fixed if i could selectively mute the incoming audio from everyone who's in the room?
Just muted a colleague because I thought "mute participant" would mute him for me only. It would be great, if the current text could be changed to "mute participant for all" and an option like "mute participant for me" or similar could be added!
It would be great!!
That would make the lives of partially-distributed teams so much easier!
BTW: There is a duplicate feature request here: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/34604422-allow-us-to-mute-individuals-but-just-from-our-poi
This feature would be soooooooooooooo nice. Even with two people in an office your head explodes because you have that double-voice-madness.
Klick on participant -> Silence button (or even better: Adjust Volume slider)
This has become a lot more critical when people are coming back to the office but most are still at home. Every meeting is still done via Teams but people are usually sharing the same open space, which makes this infuriating. I have to basically take the headphones off my head so I don't hear a constant eco.
Have no clue how hard this is to due, as I don't know if the audio streams for each of the participants in reaching the client separated, by I hope they are (probably not, for bandwidth saving purposes.......).
We also have this issue, please implement asap. It is so annoying, it drives me crazy. We have daily and weekly meetings and the moderators for those are sitting in my room, so i cant mute them for all (for obvious reasons) but i realy need to mute them for myself in order to stay focused!
PLEASE IMPLEMENT THIS FEATURE
We are required to have our microphones active during online exam (that around 30 students attend) so the teachers can make sure we are not cheating. I would welcome an option to mute all other students individually so I'm not distracted with their computers' noises, heavy breathing, leg stamping etc. Of course I do not want to disable sound output on my side since I want to be able to hear the teachers.

come on man simple features like client side muting should be made available

There is already the feature to recognize people in meeting rooms if there is a surface hub in that room.
Maybe that could also be used to recognize people in the same room that are in a call together?

This is soooo annoying! Imagine a team of let's say 20 people in a shared office. You hear them personally and also with a little delay in teams. I think my head is going to explode anytime soon. 🤯
Using one device is NOT an option.
I hope this gets more attention.
