Tagging in private channels
Tags are finally out!
But it works only for public channels in a Team. It would be great to have the same functionality for private channels.
Use case:
We are providing a DMS support for our organizational units in MS Teams.
Each organizational unit has its own private channel where the support team and the organizational unit users are finding place. Private channels are used to avoid data leak. For the users it's difficult to mentrion all the people from the support team using @.
So it would be greate to have the same functionallity for tags as public channels have.

Thank you for your feedback, the team has this ask under review. We will share an update as soon as one is available.

I had really hoped to be able to use tags in a private channel. Just frustrating the functionality is not enabled yet! It would be so useful.

I echo everything that Charlie says below. Enabling the use of tags on ALL channels within the team would greatly improve our communication between subgroups within our department. Private channels should have the same functionality as public, it's incredibly frustrating that they don't.

This would help out my workgroup a lot throughout the organization. There is information that we all have access to and then there are subworkgroups that need to be private. We all really love using the tags to bring attention to a workgroup with the team, but we are frustrated we cannot do it in the private channels. Please help by enabling this feature as I am sure the usage of the tags will go up significantly.

Agree on this suggestion would be very useful, makes the private channels less useable.

I agree that it would be very helpful to be able to tag in a private channel.

Really not sure why you cannot tag simply because the channel is Private. So frustrating

As someone said below, Private channels have several limitations that Public channels do not. They should be the same. This, using tags in private channels is another essential feature. I was hoping to use it for better classroom management. Discord has this feature. This should not take long to implement in Teams.

Yes! Would love to be able to tag all members (or set up tags like in public channels) for private channels as well instead of individually tagging people.

I would love this for our private channels. We have some groups that are for general use for one tier in a department, but we also add second tier users to the group. But the second tier users turn off the notifications on the channel so the only way to get their attention is to @mention them. So the tier 1 has to @mention each tier user when a tag would be much easier.

We are working with mobile team members for dispatch and they need to touch base with their supervisory team.

This would help me send targeted messages to people while retaining transparency.
I use channels to increase transparency and visibility of decision making. However, just because it needs to be visible to someone doesn't mean it needs their immediate attention, or any response - think of it like CCing on an email.
If I can use a private channel to limit my audience to a specific sub-team (approx 30 people), then I can use tags to direct my messages within that team, while still having them be visible to the whole sub-team.

Would highly appreciate this feature. I honestly, don't understand why it works for public channels but not for private ones. Please add asap.

If we can assigned a role for each member in big channel group & using role to multiple tag. It'll be much easier.
e.g. "@Accounting will tag all member with accounting role assigned"
This will really helping to start a discussion with selected people in bigger group, as some topic need to discussed in big group even not all needed to contributing at the moment.

This is extremely necessary for this year due to using a remote support model during COVID. We need to create private channels in a team so we can silo channels from other vendors. However, within a channel, we have a lot of groups of people and need the ability to notify the small group quickly without having to remember and notify everyone individually who is in that group.

Ya, this definitely a need. We are using channels for functional units within a branch. Each functional unit is private with the manager as an owner. The director is included as an owner as a courtesy so they can see what is going on in the functional groups. But without being able to use a tag for the group, the director is bombarded with messages from every functional group. Definitely not productive for them.
