Add/Edit Metadata within the Teams File Tab
In the new file experience rolling out, metadata can be surfaced now within the files tab, however, you can't add or edit metadata within the Files Tab itself - you have to do it in SharePoint. You can set default values when uploading files but this is problematic if you have multiple choices (A good example being the column Department where several departments upload files to a single team)

Makes metadata fields redundant if they are unable to be changed in Teams.
It would be cool, I need some staff without SharePoint access can edit metadata directly from "Teams".
Because of the "details pane" button not available in Teams. so, we have to tell the users to use the SharePoint document library from the browser to edit the metadata properties. This completely creates the confusion for the users to use the Teams as just to only view the information.
This feature is absolutely needed asap.
One of the main reasons we use Sharepoint for document storage is meta data! The link of a library in a Teams channel with Sharepoint is great and makes life very easy, but not being able to edit the meta data in teams is a pitty and there is no benefit in using it.
Everybody goes back to folder structures which is no longer a good technology and very confusing to quickly find documents.
Absolutely this is a MUST!!!

Just found out that if I added a library by clicking on + and Add a tab : Website, I was able to - in Teams - to add a doc AND edit the metadata :-)

This needs to be activated.... we`re losing adoption to Teams because of this...
At the same time, make the "Library tab" have the same #modern functionality, it make no sense Files tab is modern #SPO, and document library tab is #old...

this is a must have!! How can we ask our customers to use metadata if Teams doesnt allow changing them?? And no, going to SharePoint each time to do this is nog a good alternative
What's the point of showing Metadata for Files in Teams, but not allowing them to be modified there at the same time?
Many users are using Teams as there one stop shop to get their work done and collaborating with others. They don't need all the additional features SharePoint has to offer.
Managing files using tags instead of complex folder structures should be the norm, therefore, please make it a priority to allow editing/modifying/adding new tags within MS Teams!
Updating metadata for files within Teams would mean so much benefit for users, i.e. much more acceptance. Now, they have to think of editing it in SharePoint - I don´t have to tell you how many people just avoid this effort, leading to a worse information management than we had before in SharePoint, when SharePoint was THE platform to work in.
The best solution would be a in-place editing of file settings and metadata in Teams.
I would like to update metadata from MS Teams Files tab ???
Metadata editing is fundamental for our staff. When we train our staff to use the SharePoint platform our biggest emphasis is on utilising metadata and content types, otherwise document libraries end up in a heaped mess. The new file experience is practically useless if the user still has to navigate to SharePoint just to tag a document.
"Oh, you wanna be able to CHANGE metadata in Teams? That's gonna cost ya!"
