Bug: Inconsistency in being able to add users to Private Channels via Web/Desktop Clients
Referred from Tech Community: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams/can-t-add-members-to-private-channels/m-p/1088400#M42918
Issue is inconsistency when adding users to private channels via the web and desktop clients. Sometime users can and sometimes users can't. Workarounds to this solution include adding them on mobile (both IoS/Android) and completely removing member from the Team and re-adding them

Any updates on this ? Having same issue
Best solution is first add the user to the main channel and then to the private channel don't make the first and default channel private

This is a major issue for users at the executive level who want to collaborate between companies involved in M&A activity. Please prioritize.
To those having this issue and needing to add a large number of users. The O365 Admin Portal will still let you add members to the channels as a Teams Admin. This is still a workaround as IT will have to manage this for you. But far better than manually adding users on a mobile device.
How is this still happening, this bug is more than a year old and there may be this workaround of using a mobile, but this is high impact item that should have been addressed by now. Especially ridiculous for any users who have to manage channels of >10 people.
I run Learning & Development for a large firm and am attempting to utilize Teams for op unit communications. Of course, I am one of the users that is completely unable to search for users or add them to channels, rendering me completely ineffective in my role. Using the app to manually add 1300 users to various channels is an outrageous workaround suggestion.

So what currently works for us is creating the guest in AAD, then add him as a guest member to the team (Teams client works fine) and only after the guest user has been added to the team itself can he be added as a guest user to a private channel. The searchbox will accept username.
Is it by design that a guest user has to be a member of the team first before he can be added to a private channel? I thought guests could directly and only be added to a private channel.
However, the issue we´re also facing is that guests cannot be removed from the team any more, neither through desktop app nor mobile. Removing them from AAD also does not help, same with clearing Teams cache.
Could not add another owner of the same Team to a private channel within the same Team. It wouldn't search the name, it wouldn't accept the email address, nothing. Windows desktop Teams app must have a bug. I tried on mobile (android), and was able to easily add them to the private channel. Please fix desktop app!

Please let us know once its fixed.
Please help! I am co-owner of two separate MS Teams private channels and cannot consistently add my colleagues as "members" - all have the same company email identifier @company. I can use Teams to chat with them all, so I know Team can "see them" -- but some of them I can add to my private channel and some I cannot. I get the error message "We didn't find any matches". Also cannot add from Mobile App. Yikes! Please help!!

This has been an issue for us too.
Escalations happened at the senior level. The workaround is not a one-time fix so has to be (re)taught to everyone who experiences this.

We see this issue all the time and it's driving people crazy! Looks like it's a bug that's been in the product for over a year now - PLEASE FIX!
I have similar issue, I can add members to the General channel, however, I am unable to add to the private channel. I tried the drop and re-add user but it's not working. Our office does not use the mobile app. Any other tips to make adding to private channel work?

We have a customer experiencing this issue right now with adding two high-level employees to private channels within their Teams groups. The users are licensed, and work for chat, etc. They can also participate in public channels within the Teams. Asked them to do the mobile workaround to see if that works for them, but I can see how this would be very frustrating and worth having fixed.
