Unmute headset microphone using physical mute button during Teams Meetings (fails 66% of the time)
Microsoft partially released hardware mute control to Teams ~ August of 2018, but since then I have experienced MORE issues vs less with call control. Here's the scenario:
Inside a Teams conference or call, press the hardware mute button on the headset. Teams matches this with a software mute as well 100% of the time.
Try to unmute the call from the hardware button on the headset, and I find that Teams only software-unmutes ~30% of the time.
Microsoft reference a handful of models with known issues, but I suggest that many, many more models suffer these problems, such as the ones we've tested:
- Plantronics Voyager UC w/BT600 dongle
- Plantronics Voyager 5200 w/BT600 dongle
- Jabra Evolve 65 w/ JabraLink 370
- Jabra Evolve 75 w/ JabraLink 370
This is a direct companion/follow-up to the article below, which I feel was closed prematurely:
There may always be issues with HW mute synchronization in Teams. The headsets I've used all have strong mute indicators (visual or audible), and work great by themselves. Provide users a way to disable the Teams HW mute integration as a method to bypass this issue.
the suggestion is great. Give us the option of whether we want to have our hardware mute synchronize with the software mute. Put it under advanced, so that way tech savyl users will be able to find it, but also so that those users that are less tech savy wont be confused by it.
Try to uninstall completely skype or skype for business. Then restart the team. Before I can only mute/unmute few times and then fails after that. Now it is has been consistently working after uninstalling skype for business.
I have Jabra Elite 65E with Jabra MS 370 dongle.
Same issue here with Jabra Speak 510 i.c.w. Teams App on Mac OS X. Sometimes the hardware mute button syncs with the software mute button in Teams, sometimes it doesn't. This leads to the classic double mute problem.
I have the exact same issue! It's so unreliable and it creates a lot of problems. A couple times I thought I was on mute and I wasn't! Please fix this as soon as possible.

This bug is really annoying. I am unable to use the HW mute button in MS Teams on my Mac. In the moment I press the HW mute button I hear a notification "muted", directly followed by a "unmuted" but once you have done that, you are muted for the remaining call and only redialing in solves that ...
I would love to have some setting in teams to simply ignore the HW button ...
It's a problem with sennheiser pxc 550 when working on mac.
Mute control works correctly with teams on android.
Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.8663
I cannot use the physical button on my Jabra headset.
It works well with Skype but not with Teams.

Thanks for keeping this issue alive -- it's beyond frustrating. I'm using the Plantronics Voyager 5200 and am unable to Mute/Unmute using the headset button in Teams. In addition, the hangup call beeps but does nothing in Teams.
I can not second this enough that this issue is not fixed. And the hardware mute button never works in my case. I am using a Logitech headset with a Microsoft driver version 10.0.18362.1 released 3/18/2019.

This was seamless in Skype, and will be a source of user frustration as we migrate to Teams. Simple keyboard shortcuts and hardware integration in Skype was great.
