Unmute headset microphone using physical mute button during Teams Meetings (fails 66% of the time)
Microsoft partially released hardware mute control to Teams ~ August of 2018, but since then I have experienced MORE issues vs less with call control. Here's the scenario:
Inside a Teams conference or call, press the hardware mute button on the headset. Teams matches this with a software mute as well 100% of the time.
Try to unmute the call from the hardware button on the headset, and I find that Teams only software-unmutes ~30% of the time.
Microsoft reference a handful of models with known issues, but I suggest that many, many more models suffer these problems, such as the ones we've tested:
- Plantronics Voyager UC w/BT600 dongle
- Plantronics Voyager 5200 w/BT600 dongle
- Jabra Evolve 65 w/ JabraLink 370
- Jabra Evolve 75 w/ JabraLink 370
This is a direct companion/follow-up to the article below, which I feel was closed prematurely:
There may always be issues with HW mute synchronization in Teams. The headsets I've used all have strong mute indicators (visual or audible), and work great by themselves. Provide users a way to disable the Teams HW mute integration as a method to bypass this issue.

Same with virtually all Plantronics/Poly and Jabra professional contact center headsets. It causes a lot of cussing in virtually every meeting I've attended over the past year. NOT a problem with any other conferencing applications, ONLY Teams. Same with the video defaulting on as a legal problem... ONLY Teams.
Same issue with a USB Poly P3200

Same issue with a logitech H820e headset - both on the teams web client and the app. Changing the mic to another source, muting that source, changing back and then unmuting (or some combination of those steps) usually fixes it but very frustrating
Same issue here with Jabra headphones. Google meet and Zoom are so much ahead of Teams because of the lack if these heavily annoying Microsoft issues.
Same for Plantronics Voyager UC with Bluetooth

This occurs on MacOS Caralina 10.15.5 running Teams 1.3.00.15561.
I have a Jabra Speak 510 office speakerphone model PHS002W, connected by USB.
Issues with the Plantronics Blackwire C320-M headset - please can you fix. Works with Skype but the lights on the control buttons (mute/end call/volume +/-) don't operate with Microsoft Teams.
Having this same issue with the Jabra Elite 85h. Please address this!
Great suggestion. A mute/unmute button always present (not on a toolbar that hides when there is no action on the screen) on both the mobile app and the desktop version would be welcome as well

Imagine being able to ***** up hardware muting... Honestly.
Same for me. In Skype and WebEx, I can set myself as un-muted independently of my Jabra headset's mic position or hardware mute / un-mute button. This allows me to talk to someone else offline in one meeting without being heard in another meeting.
However, in MS Teams, the mute status of the application is force linked to the headset's mute status, so I as soon as I un-mute my headset mic via the hardware button and / or mic position, Teams un-mutes me in the application and starts inputting the audio in that meeting; there is no way to separate the functionality.

Another vote for Teams on MacOS Catalina.
Hardware mute on my headset Jabra Elite 85h does not work when in a Teams call: at button press a "muted" is registered but always followed immediately from an "unmuted"
The physical mute button of my headset is no longer working since weeks ago.
It was working; I could mute during Teams meeting via my headset but in the recent weeks, it stops to work. It is so confusing I don't know which one I shall turn on and was in many embarrassing situations during the meeting ... pls fix it.
Headphone Jabra Link 370 with its dongle attached.

I've had this now for a while. Our company still uses Skype (so I can't and won't uninstall anything), but occasionally I get invited into Teams meetings. I use Chrome or Edge to get in, not the app. The muting won't go off. Once I got it off by taking the dongle JabraLink 370 out of the USB and putting it back in and fiddling around with the audio controls in the control panel, but only worked once. Today the same issue. I have to disconnect the Jabra and use the laptop built-in microphone to be able to unmute.
The Jabra headset works seamlessly with Skype and every other conferencing software I have used. Don't make it more worse than you have to, please.
Keeping this alive... still a problem. Have seen MS article that says "it just works" with list of a few speakerphones that have known problems. Despite that - still doesn't work for me.
Have seen mention of uninstall Skype for Business. It's installed for me, but not listed in add/remove programs to uninstall. Sneaky...
Please put this on the top of the list. A must have!
The same issue here with Jabra Elite 85h / MacOS. I don't have any issue with iPhone version of Teams. It is super annoying!
Just an update of my initial comment. I thought i have fixed it but it was a false alarm.
Uninstalling skype for business did help the hardware mute button but only worked in short time. Hardware mute button stop working after clicking mute/unmute 8x or so. I can still hear "mute" or "unmute" voice if I click the mute button on teams but the hardware mute def stop working. This is very annoying.
Headset: Jabra Elite 65E
same issue with platronics C725
the suggestion is great. Give us the option of whether we want to have our hardware mute synchronize with the software mute. Put it under advanced, so that way tech savyl users will be able to find it, but also so that those users that are less tech savy wont be confused by it.
Try to uninstall completely skype or skype for business. Then restart the team. Before I can only mute/unmute few times and then fails after that. Now it is has been consistently working after uninstalling skype for business.
I have Jabra Elite 65E with Jabra MS 370 dongle.
