Unmute headset microphone using physical mute button during Teams Meetings (fails 66% of the time)
Microsoft partially released hardware mute control to Teams ~ August of 2018, but since then I have experienced MORE issues vs less with call control. Here's the scenario:
Inside a Teams conference or call, press the hardware mute button on the headset. Teams matches this with a software mute as well 100% of the time.
Try to unmute the call from the hardware button on the headset, and I find that Teams only software-unmutes ~30% of the time.
Microsoft reference a handful of models with known issues, but I suggest that many, many more models suffer these problems, such as the ones we've tested:
- Plantronics Voyager UC w/BT600 dongle
- Plantronics Voyager 5200 w/BT600 dongle
- Jabra Evolve 65 w/ JabraLink 370
- Jabra Evolve 75 w/ JabraLink 370
This is a direct companion/follow-up to the article below, which I feel was closed prematurely:
There may always be issues with HW mute synchronization in Teams. The headsets I've used all have strong mute indicators (visual or audible), and work great by themselves. Provide users a way to disable the Teams HW mute integration as a method to bypass this issue.

Ive fixed this issue following help from Jabra. Use the Jabra USB dongle and the Headset button functions all work with Teams/Skype! Bluetooth has limited functionality.
Sennheiser SC 665 USB. Pressing the HW-mute button will sometimes mute/unmute Teams, sometimes not. It's very frustrating, during a meeting I just can't rely on my mute button and have to use the mouse to mute via Teams. I would really like to be able to use the HW mute button to mute and unmute myself, and for the mute indicator on the dongle to tell me whether or not I'm muted. Please, add an option in Teams to ignore HW mute, or make it consistently follow the HW mute button!

Plantronics BT600, audible and visual mute confirmation turns on on hardware, but not on Teams software and, more importantly, microphone is NOT MUTED.

Having the same issue, started about a week ago. I've never been able to answer calls but my physical "mute" button used to control the Teams software mute function, it no longer does. I'm using a Jabra ENC010 and Teams You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64-bit). It was last updated on 11/17/20.
It seems odd that the "break" wasn't directly tied to the last Teams Update.

When I push my microphone upwards on my Jabra Evolve 75 I get a "muted" voice confirmation from the headset. BUT all sound goes through to Teams (and mute symbol on Teams is not lit). This is not a good solution at all and, as pointed out below, even more critical than not being able to unmute.
I was very surprised that the hardware actually passed sound through to the client at all after giving a voice confirmation saying "muted". And of course this gets really messy when Teams don't catch the mute input.

+1 - Same issue with Plantronics Blackwire 3220. Rebooting seems to get it working for a while.

Same issue as below with Jabra Evolve 65 MS Stereo (ironically, they're "Microsoft Certified"). Has MS come back with any suggestions yet?

Makes the use of a Bluetooth device rather reduandant if I have to be glued to my laptop to toggle mute/unmute.
Just noticed that if you disable new meeting experience (At least on Mac) its working better with wand mute, button still inconsistent
I have the same issue using Plantronics Voyager UC w/BT600 dongle in Teams. But only since the last firmware update to v.1723 (Dongle) and V5.00 (headset). Before hardware mute button worked fine. Now Teams always unmutes the device automatically.

Hardware mute works great on Cisco Jabber for years. With Teams I have only problems. It does not recognize my Jabra Headset with the hardware mute although Jabra direct tells me it is Teams ready.
Please make hardware mute available!
Started happening with my Jabra Puck 710 as soon as the MS Teams meeting pop-out window experience was introduced to MS Teams. Any resolution?
Same with Jabra Evolve 40 MS with JabraLink. It worked consistently for about two weeks, but since the beginning of September 2020 it has stopped working.

Same issue with Jabra Elite 75t with bluetooth (no USB BT). Either fix this or provide option to disable the feature MS!

Same with Jabra Evolve 20 MS via USB. I just downloaded the Jabra Direct management software and upgraded the firmware from 3.0.0 to 4.1.0, but problem still exists.
Same with Jabra 510 connected via USB. Used to work flawlessly.
Seems to directly be a Teams issue. The lights and buttons work great with both Zoom and Google.
Same issue with on-prem teams hosting. Jabra Evolve 65 UC headset.
