Support for portable wifi enabled phones or Dect
Allow vendors to develop and deploy wireless portable devices for calling.
There is no device on market for both Skype online or Teams that is Wireless and portable. Deploying mobile phones with Teams or the Skype at is not professional and does not work well in testing.
Vendors have claimed this is due to Microsoft refusing to certify this type of device.
We ordered a few mobile phones with no SIM to use within the factory. When there was a need to place an emergency call, everyone assumed they could dial the emergency number with the phone locked. Since there was no SIM card, call would not work (EMEA). If we had a proper wireless phone instead, this would no longer be a risk. For now, not only do we need to purchase a mobile phone but also a mobile plan for each to prevent any issues with emergency dialing.
Would like to add to this request. In the industry my team supports, manufacturing, we have a need for a 'cordless' phone solution that will marry in with Teams voice. We have scenarios where managers wish to carry a device because they step away and need to field a call and most blue tooth headsets will not accommodate the longer ranges +100 ft or so. We also do not want to add voice traffic over wifi using the teams app on a mobile phone or other mobile device.
Need a NON DECT wireless WVoIP phone. Most offices have a wireless IP solution and will not want to deploy DECT base stations all over the place.
From a security propective they do not want personal mobiles connected to the WIP on the corporate network, so a dedicated Teams WVoIP solution such as the old Spectralink (previously Poly) phones would make sense and a gap in the current offering
Something like the Spectralink 8440 is the kind of device that I think we're talking about here. We currently use them for our shop personnel and the service is from RingCentral.
The 8440 also comes in a Skype-for-Business flavor, which is interesting, since that product is being depreciated and replaced by Teams. Hopefully, they come out with hardware that allows users to authenticate to teams and have direct-dial numbers there.
