Option to hide the Files tab.
We have a well organised folder structure and protocol for file sharing through SharePoint. I have the SharePoint Document Library added as a tab in Teams and it works great. However, the Files tab on each channel is making everything messy.
We really do not want this extra location for sharing files in most of our teams and channels.
My current work-around is to revoke permission for the auto created 'General' folder in SharePoint.
Add two sub folders in 'General' folder called 'DO NOT PUT FILES HERE' and 'please use document library tab above'. So that when a user clicks Files tab they will be reminded not to use it.
Also add an alert to the SharePoint 'General' if a user accidentally adds a files here. Then as an Admin I can move it to the correct place in the Document Library or I can contact the user and ask them to move it.
It's an ugly, clunky, time wasting work around. So please, can you give us the option to hide this Files tab?

This is one we’re struggling/furious with too.
After investing time and training building up a logical, and GDPR-compliant Sharepoint, along comes Teams and automatically creates a second Sharepoint site we didn’t want.
To compound the issue, the unwanted ‘new’ site is given legitimacy by being the Files tab on Teams. Which means our people are cluttering this up, including with files that should be subject to rules on sensitivity and/or retention.
(As our organisation didn’t realise that Teams worked that way, we also have two entirely separate groups of admins trained up...)
Ideally, we need either to be able to repoint where the Files tab sends people, or to hide it in favour of a tab for the ‘proper’ Sharepoint site.
Yes, we *could* create a fresh O365 Team from within Sharepoint, deleting the existing Team but that’s frankly starting again from scratch...
We have restricted our domain on the Sharepoint level of preventing all files from being accessed outside of our org. Required by a client audit. Since Sharepoint is the backbone repository for Teams, it makes the File tab useless when we have a Team with external guests. We try to tell our internal users to stop dropping files in the Files tab because our clients can't see the items. Would love to have the option to "hide" the tab or move far to the right.

Exactly! We are doing the same thing - only referencing a Sharepoint Library and trying to hide the file tab.
We are looking exactly for the feature that Ronald van Herk mentioned. We want to show the SharePoint library as a tab and hide the file tab. This way users can fully take advantage of the document management features in SharePoint.

I voted. Another option is to have a Document Library of your own connected to the Files tab (with support for the customization and views that you have done on SharePoint)
