Customize default sort order of folders in Teams
Folders in Teams are sorted by default on last modified date. There is no option to set a different default sort order like an alphabetic sort order.
Please add options that allows the user to set his/her own default sort order in order to sort folder names in Teams.

That this has been an open issue for years is ridiculous. Also the current sort model puts 11 after 2 which is just dumb.

Make the tablet/phone apps work like the pc app please, this is a minimum and simple “must have”.
Need this immediately as our sales people all use iPad or phone (so tabley apps and not pc based apps). -

So, if I understand correctly, MS had rolled out two things recently:
1. The default sort order of files and folders has switched to alphabetical.
2. You can make custom views: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-change-or-delete-a-view-of-a-list-or-library-27ae65b8-bc5b-4949-b29b-4ee87144a9c9?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=USBut: of this last option, i'm not sure: if this is a personal view, or a Team-view; i.e. if my colleague makes a view NewestToOldest, and sets it as default view, will it also by my default view?
Because: default sort order is a personal thing, i imagine, not a Team thing?
I like my files and folders sorted alphabetically, but my colleague really misses the sorting on Last Modified date .... Why can't this be a personal setting for your Teams-application? -

Having read a lot of the comments on here. It would be good to be able to default the sort order of files within a channel, but also to be able to default sort any subfolder with potentially a different order e.g. dated Meetings folders in reverse order (to show latest meeting first) with the actual contents of the subfolder in ascending order (to show agenda items in order)

Sort the folder how you wish, then click ALL DOCUMENTS, then click Save View As, type a name or keep [auto-fill name] there, then click save.

You need to change the view settings in Sharepoint. Yeah it's not intuiitive, but MS is enforced use in my org, so I need to adapt.
You can customize order...
a) Open in SharePoint
b) All Documents
c) Edit Current View
d) Go to Sort and customize as needed
e) Go to end of page and press OK -

it's annoying that all folders are first, even if a file has been updated more recently than a folder.

This is still not working for me. In Teams, sorted based upon the file name. Saved it as a new "View". Set that view as default. Nothing. It will not stick.

To add to this, am I mistaken or does TEAMS not recognise dates? i.e. if you made each file name an actual date (08_09_20 for example) -or in whichever format necessary, it will not list the files in date order will it?

Like so many here, I totally agree! A way to change the default setting seems like a total no brainer!!!

Very frustrating that is sorts by oldest file first. I usually want to see the newest files first. This forces me to re-sort every time I go in to look at my files.

This is so frustrating, I need everything sorted in number order since my teams start with project numbers. I found a work around, if you hide every channel, when you open the "hidden teams" folder, it is all sorted numerically. So as long as I hide each new one, it works. "Hidden teams" is really just another folder. Beyond crazy that this has to be done.

I don't seem to be able to set the default view sort by modified date. With the new update its sorting by name in alphabetical order. So when I set the sort column to Modified its sorting by alphabet for the modified column i.e. April, August. That's so annoying.
Does anyone know how to to set the default view in teams to sort by modified date after the latest update.
