Keyboard shortcut for mute/unmute microphone
A setting to make use of a keyboard to fast mute/unmute your microphone, this is a very good quality of live feature

Assuming most people have their Windows Key on the left and are using their mouse with their right hand, the CTRL + SHIFT + M shortcut is extremely inconveniently placed regardless of whichever CTRL + SHIFT you're using.
Zoom is using ALT + A and it's super easy combo. As far as I can tell ALT + A isn't used in Teams, so it can be used.
Please make this change. -

I have two kids in the same class, attending online classes from two laptops in the same room.
I have made them USB button boxes for mute/unmute, un/raise hand, video on/off.
The boxes are synced over Bluetooth, so that if one unmutes, the other one gets muted automatically, to avoid echos.
For this to work reliably, I would need separate shortcuts for mute/unmute. Shortcuts can be awkward, as they get triggered through an Arduino. If it is the same shortcut for mute/unmute, this can cause both laptops to fall out of sync, ending up with both being muted or unmuted at the same time.
Spacebar as PTT would work but has the disadvantage that Teams must be in the foreground, which is not always the case. -

Getting a lot of good feedback here, but I think the emphasis should be put on a GLOBAL hotkey. That way you can do it from anywhere in the system (don't have to open the Teams app to use it). For example CTRL+SHIFT+M could be pressed anytime you want to mute/unmute and it'll instantly do it, you don't have to find the app and open it before you can use the button combo

I also vote for 'push to talk' spacebar!

+1 Push to Talk (unmute/mute with space bar)

If you click on the mute/unmute button once, you can then mute and unmute with the spacebar until you click somewhere else.

Just take the Space bar PTT function from Zoom and let’s move on - this is a no brainer.

Yes, come on Microsoft just simple stuff. Check how Zoom does this.

push to talk with a single key would be great, even more now with home schooling situation

Space bar for push to talk would be amazing. Would also make it easier in large groups to maintain a productive team meeting without accidental interruption. Which I think this is what this software is supposed to offer.

My son is using it (he's 6). He knows how to operate Teams but the icons are so tiny and undifferentiated, and he often forgets he's muted, or unmuted. Good UX would make this far easier to understand and use.
And why is the Mute shortcut three separate keys? Make it easy!

a push-to-talk feature with the space button would be perfect!!!

Yeah! "push to talk" is what we need!

Up for the space button suggestion, but that may be a big No for accessibility given how much space bar need to do. Actually, if you focus on the unmute button, space button will toggle it. So as long as you just listen to the meeting and don't do other stuff (keep the keyboard focus), you can use space button to toggle.
Ctrl+Shift+M won't need two hands, and it can be mapped to other shortcut with autohotkey, so.... -

Webex has space to unmute it's very handy. My 5 year old daughter would appreciate a simpler way to unmute for the school register!

Yes PLEASE - spacebar to toggle mute. Then sell me a piece of USB hardware that has a light to remind me I'm on mute. How is this not a thing in 2020?

Another vote here for using the space bar as a temporary unmute (push-to-talk) feature!
