The flashing orange highlight - distracting and breaks workflow
When a message arrives through microsoft teams, the taskbar icon begins flashing bright orange until i switch to that window to acknowledge it. every time. I have to break my focus to acknowledge every message, regardless of importance. this is extremely distracting and not something that other messaging platforms do.
a larger, more prominent static icon showing the number of unread messages should suffice. if there is concern about unread messages being ignored, a button to mark a message as 'urgent' so as to make that flash might work better.

I agree! I've resorted to muting all of my conversations to avoid the flashing which isn't ideal. It flashes even if I have Teams open and if I have "do not disturb" on and am in the middle of presenting. I suggest this be an option that you can turn off. I would also suggest making it an option for the number of unread messages in the taskbar icon to be turned off as well. (Outlook has this a an option).

It should be optional. We can't find a way to turn it off.

I also find this very annoying and distracting, especially when there's some lively conversation going on in a team but it isn't relevant to me. I would love if there was a way to disable this, or only enable it when someone mentions me.
