SMS/MMS in Teams Phone System
Allow users to send and receive SMS/MMS messages from within Teams on the desktop and mobile app to the Office 365 phones number. This would be a great help for our field technicians in actually adopting a phone system rather than using their mobile phone. The MMS part of this would be fairly important in our use case.
There is now a solution (Chatabox) that text-enables Microsoft Teams: https://www.chatabox.co.uk/sms-for-microsoft-teams/ and there's also a handy mobile app. Microsoft Azure Active Directory provides sign-in security with no need for additional user access maintenance.
Chatabox offers a choice of a virtual number or we can SMS-enable your existing Microsoft number as well as your existing landline number, so you can have SMS and Voice on the familiar number you already use.
We're also working with Direct Routing partners to add the Chatabox service to the numbers they provide so that you can send and receive SMS on the direct routing number they provide from within Microsoft Teams.
You can check out Chatabox for free with a no-obligation, no credit card required trial - a good way to check that the solution works for you and does everything you want it to.
If you'd like to chat with us to discuss your exact requirements, please don't hesitate to let us know:
pulling MS teams phone system off the table as an alternative to our current RC setup. im a small fish... but the projected amount I would have spent with MS IF this basic feature was available exceeds $20K annually.
How is Microsoft not addressing something so VERY necessary in today's world where such a large swath of people hide from phone calls, but answer/send texts without care...?
Tap tap.. anyone listening?

Count me in as unable to migrate without SMS baked into the offering
We need this too. IT Services, customers sometimes text us, don't want them texting our tech's personal cellphones. Also we need to receive MFA verification texts for admin logins. Would love to switch to Teams phone system, but this is holding us back.

Why is this not active? This is crazy that Google Voice has this option; I will keep my numbers there as another person said, customers expect SMS/MMS capability with numbers now.

This is basic communication functionality for communicating with customers. come of Microsoft get with the times, people text to numbers expect to get a response. I may not like texting but my customers expect to get answers to their texts

agree, need SMS/MMS
I won't be using the MS phone system until my customers and leads can send sms to me. this is a critical feature for any business phone system in 2019
We utilize SMS/MMS heavily and this is a major consideration of any VOIP solution we look to implement.
Our Use Case: Recruiting. Service/Mobile Workforce Engagement.
Our small business is losing leads because customers assume texting will work. Our inbound texts go to nowhere. This is a critical feature.

I was actually going to switch to MS Phone System until I saw this feature did not exist.

I'm surprised to see so little response. Being able to receive a text message is so fundamental, I'm really surprised to not see it in the phone system. In IT, I have my Teams phone and Google Voice. I can't really migrate, as I constantly need to receive verification texts which Google handles no problem.
