Make the "New Conversation" and expanded compose UI optional
In channels, I would prefer the option of a plain text field that spans the width of the window, by default. The tiny "New conversation" button that opens a rich text editor is worse for me in 95% of situations.
On desktop, my team recently started seeing a change in Channels from an "always-on" compose element at the bottom of the right/chat pane to a smaller "New conversation" button that displays a larger version of the compose ui.
This change seems to have made auto-scroll clunkier, and also to have introduced a bunch of wasted space to the right of the button that used to be a text field that spanned most of the width of the pane. In full screen, the click-target to post a message basically shrunk by >= 90%, and was replaced with empty space.
With this, the larger compose view that is revealed by the "New conversation" button does not seem to have gotten larger without adding consistent value. The "Subject" field is interesting, but I don't need the extra lines for the message body unless I'm actually putting content into them, which is not often, and the formatting toolbar is mostly vestigial when the markdown capability is working as intended.
Also, the mobile client currently works "the old way" and displays a simple text field across the bottom of the pane. Why introduce inconsistency across platforms?
The "New conversation" button is sometimes out of reach from the keyboard. When I'm in an existing conversation, my existing habit is to hit esc, and arrow down to start a new message, but that it not working anymore.
I can sometimes use the 'c' keyboard shortcut (after escaping from an existing convo) to start a new convo, but it doesn't work consistently, so I have to click the button or enter the Team list with cmd+3, then hit enter on the relevant channel, and then hit enter on the "New conversation" button.
This is a regression in functionality. The need to click a button to start a conversation is counter-productive and takes too much time due how SLOW Teams already is. Remove the New Conversation button and put the Text Box back.
Please make this button optional. I just want to be able to chat, stop introducing things that make that harder.
