Shortcut to files (to avoid duplication of file storage)
Sometimes a single file needs to be accessed from different places (but it's not important enough to put it as a tab).
Why should we need to duplicate files across different channels or Teams if we could simply add a shortcut? But this functionality doesn't seem available.
In SPO sites within a document library you can add shortcuts to files (instead of the files themselves). You can add this via the NEW button in SPO, however this setting seems to be disabled for the Teams view of the SPO doc library - where it would be most useful!
We are just implementing teams. As a government agency, we need to keep track of record copies. This would be a way to avoid duplicates, which is a big issue!! Ideally, there would be a Sharepoint Library of port wide documents with links in the teams that need the files. Some files are needed by more than one team. Record copies would then be saved in the port wide library once editing was complete.
Agree, would really love to have this!! Why does it have only 15 votes :(
We really need this!

I agree!! I have 3 files I want shared between groups. Also, since Teams works in its own library and path there are files in our master SharePoint that I would like to have a link to in the Team files folder.
Another similar would be Folder shortcuts to SharePoint master folders in 'Shared Documents' As CMO/CTO I don't want duplicate files all over the place and not everyone on the same page (literally)

I agree this needs to be a function in teams. When someone attempts to upload a file with an identical title, that already exists in one of the Team/SharePoint document libraries, should show an option to link to the existing file instead. This should include showing a preview window of both files for quick comparison to simplify the users choice.
