Mute microphone by default when joining a meeting
I've seen other user voice topics on this issue, and some even say there are fixes in place, but it only applies when 4 or more participants are on a call. Most of our Teams meetings are using the Audio Conferencing add-on, so when a customer joins a meeting on their laptop (after already calling in to the conferencing bridge) they generate a bad echo. Yes, this can be resolved with training, but why can't we at least have the option to disable the microphone by default (regardless of the number of attendees in a meeting)
+1 to implement this feature.
Adding my voice to this given that this forum doesn't have an upvote button.
Both the below should be implemented:
- A user personal setting, 'Default participant settings' that includes the option to have the microphone disabled (plus other enable/disable options).
- A meeting organizer setting, 'Default participant settings' that includes the option to have microphones disabled (plus other enable/disable options).
User personal settings should take precedence in all cases.
I entirely dislike having to click 4 extra buttons every time I join a meeting.

This is a much needed features. Why can't simple features but greatly impacting the user experience be prioritized?
I feel this is really needed to secure unintentional privacy utterances.
This is a huge gap in Teams feature, every other conferencing has this!!!
True; most meetings, I've to disable the mic and join - better if it is the default!
I strongly agree with all the rest, I did realize this today that there are no way to enter a meeting with the microphone muted. This must be fixed and as many already have stated this could not be so hard to implement.

Please and thank you
yes please implement ASAP - can cause great embarrassment!
Isn't it amazing how MS is so inept when it comes to accomplishing little things like this? Just give us an option list. 1) use system default, 2) join unmuted, 3) join muted. How difficult is this Microsoft? Heck, I could code this for you in a few minutes.

A Must! Please implement ASAP
Mics and cameras off as a default MUST be an option for any usable conferencing software. How did this product ship without it!?

I think apart from one click Leave, it too easy to join being not muted. Also too easy to unmute (zoom has much better GUI in that regard).

This would be extremely helpful when organizing large meetings. The "Allow participants to activate sound" doesn't seem to do anything. +1
MS Teams you guys need to add this feature, i have joined some meetings forgetting that i was unmuted mehn it was very embarrassing. You guys need to add this feature ASAP
I joined meeting today with more than 30 people already joined, but I was to quick with the "Join Now" and did not realize I was not muted!! (I was quicker than program analysis on how many had joined).
Please, how can I set a default to always be muted and take a conscious decision to go unmuted ?
Experience today made we really uncomfortable and reluctant to use the MS teams meeting...
2021 and still not implemented, no wonder why nobody likes teams
+1 for this request. Mics and cameras off as a default needs to be an option
+1 I really wish there was a default setting available where I can be muted when I join a meeting. Teams already has the information of how many people are going to be in the meeting, so if its just 1-1 than leave the mic on. Even Zoom has this feature.
Please add a meeting default setting which allows attends to be muted upon entry, no matter the meeting size. This feature needs to apply to people calling in as well.
