When you start a new conversation the default behaviour after submitting should be to focus on the reply to the conversation.
Frequently I find that when people use teams for group conversations that they want to use it like a messenging app and just type multiple consecutive messages in the 'Start a new conversation' box at the bottom of the groups conversations page. This ends up creating multiple consecutive 'conversations' and reduces the readability of the conversations tab. The default behavior after submitting a new conversation should be to place the cursor in the reply box to continue the conversation so that additional messages are appended to the conversation instead of starting a new conversation.

Or move the 'Start a new conversation' box to the top of the page so that it mimics the behaviour of Facebook, with which the majority of users will be familiar.
Love this idea. I can see the challenge with changing the default behavior though because you can have multiple conversations in a channel.
The current layout definitely gives the impression that the Conversations tab is a single thread and that the "start a new conversation" field is where you're supposed to reply (if you don't read the background text which is what happens almost every time someone wants to reply).
I think getting rid of the "start a new conversation" field at the bottom in favor of a button or something would eliminate that knee-jerk reaction to just start typing because that's what we're used to with most other chats and forums. More focus should be placed on the "Reply" links on each individual thread by making the reply line a different color, slightly increase the font size, bold, centered, or really ANYTHING that makes it stand out.
