prevent renaming Teams for owners
We try to keep a naming convention for Teams in our business. However, if Team Owners are able to rename their teams, we can not keep the naming convention

A very essential feature for a hospital with teams spread across two sites (4,500). A well defined naming convention would be a system administrators dream!

We have also defined a naming convention and would appreciate a functionnality that allow Teams admin to allow or not teams renaming :-) Thanks
As previously proposed, a good idea would be to allow the user to change an alias of the team name (displayed in his account) but not the real team name used by admins.

Need for schools. Somme teachers like to rename predefined teams which makes very difficult to find courses after that. Around 1000 different courses automaticaly created.

Agree with sentiments of others around naming conventions, it in turn helps with data storage compliance, and user interaction as they know what prefix etc to look for, or what a team is about if we say had separate teams for tender process, followed by implementation/contract rollout, and finally operational.
I also often seem to have to point out on uservoice that if we have over a hundred votes, imagine how many of these (like me) whom represent both a large internal organization, but also MSP for lots of smaller external clients. that can exponentially increase the real numbers feeling impact of this configuration omission.
This would be very useful.

As an organisation with over 4000 teams it is imperative that we are able to stop owners renaming teams as it is causing major issues with administration of those teams.

Still an issue that needs resolving
Please add this. We need persistent names for automated processes.

How is this considered an Enterprise tool if it can't be properly managed by IT?
As mentioned below, we need to ensure compliance with naming policies.
Also, renaming a Team does not update the email address or SharePoint Online URL.
If we could "lock" a Teams name, Owners who want to rename a team would go to the admins and then all parts of the renaming (Team name, email, SPO URL) may be done at the same time.
Yeah really needed. Developed a nice naming policy and disabled creation of teams by users so it the few people who can create teams are following that naming policy.
Surprise, surprise, a few days later a number of those nicely named teams turned up not so nicely named anymore.
At least give us the option to lock it down for owners.

Agreed. We follow naming conventions as well. Also, Owners should not be allowed to change the Privacy Level of their Team. One owner has already inadvertently edited their privacy level to PUBLIC when editing their Team name (two abilities this owner should not have).
I would strongly request these abilities be able to be limited to Teams Admins and need to be done via the Portal.
Absolutely need this to ensure compliance with naming policies
Please add the possibility to BLOCK renaming TEAMS to Owner.
Add a displayname attribute use to show a convivial name in team for user and allow possibility to change this attribute to Owner.
This will prevent corruping name convention and stay sync with other teams objects like MailAddress, Groups and SharePOint Site.
Please add this to allow good governance
Please introduce the option to block a Team Owner from changing a Team Name
It's absolutely an requirement in education
