Contact Group Issue in TEAM Chat
I have created several contact lists for various groups. I cannot figure out how to start a chat / send a message to individual GROUPS / Contacts. Please fix this as I would think the point of creating a Contact list is to enable users to quickly and easily send messages to a select group of people.

Yes, I figured out how to create a group, but you cannot initiate a chat with that group. The prompt says you can enter the name of a group, but it does not recognize the saved group. There are many times where cross team members just need to check in on items, but aren't really working on a project together that would warrant a channel. Skype has this functionality.
We are trying to use Teams Chat Group feature for Online Classrooms, have distribution groups of all students for each course, but cannot readily create a Chat Group and assign the course Distribution List for the chat. Can do it for meeting request; why not for Chat Group?
Once you have had one meeting, the Chat Group for that meeting becomes persistent in your Recent Chat's list, but we want to initiate the Chat Group using the Distribution List as the members, the Help text in the To: field says Enter name, email, GROUP or tag; can't really use a group, though, can you?

This was in Skype and it would be a great feature to have in this tool.

I did not see this request when I opened my new one : https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/39400009-add-ability-to-invite-team-or-contact-group-to-new
I believe the design of contact from their initial plan is merely just for you to find person contact but not initiate a chat. To initiate a group chat you need to pick the group of people in the recent tab. hahaha...look silly and funny though. If the contact group can right click group name to launch the group chat of course is the best. No people like to keep a group always open, so i can launch the pre save contact group anytime. hahahaha...where is my skype feature.
Switch to Slack, Teams is terrible...

Pointless exercise, time wasted. Deadline missed.
Distribution lists (contacts) ate surely a basic function. Please pleasr sort out. We are an organisation of 2,500 staff and this is a blocker.
I have come across the same thing. so frustrating...

I agree... couldnt figure out how to do this and couldve sworn I had done it before... probably as in Skype for Business...
Skype contact group allows to interact/chat with all the users within a group but same thing is missing from the Chat contact groups.
I hope this is the most important feature which got misses as everyone will move from Skype to Teams and will prefer the chat option from a contact group.

I agree - I can't see the functionality in contact groups without being able to start a group chat with a few clicks - the current method of adding individuals one by one seems labour intensive.
There are many circumstances where the creation of a Team isn't appropriate but a simple contact group would be perfect for end users to quickly initiate a group chat.
I just came across this too. Such a strange thing to not be included.
