I want to access Teams content while able to "appear offline"
This is a feature request regarding the presence capability versus other offline features that want to use Teams while disconnected.
This feature allows
People to do work at off hours without being interrupted.
People to look or retrieve content which has no concept of presence.
For those concerned about abuse of an appear offline feature and enabling presence liars, users can still lie and set any of the current presence states with the same intention.
I can be connected to the network and use Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint, etc. and do MY work without worrying about interruptions.
Appear offline is now available on Desktop/Web and iOS. It will be available later this month on Android. To learn more, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-your-status-in-teams-ce36ed14-6bc9-4775-a33e-6629ba4ff78e.

This is a must have feature that competing products have - such as Zoom and Slack.
This is a must have...
In today’s world, the average worker is distracted 15 times per day, it takes an average of 23 minutes to recover from a distraction. That’s right. Multiply 23 minutes by 15 distractions and you get 6 hours of recovery time...
How come S4B features were not used as a baseline, and then include enhancements from there? At the moment Teams is just a flashy Sharepoint with a (not friendly) chat included
You can only access the hidden menu if you have local admin or if you start Teams as Administrator. Which then means you are setting Offline for the local admin. Not you, if you try to log in with your domain login, then depending on your company policies, you may not be able to join.
In summary, as domain logged in user, I can't get the hidden menu. If I run Teams as local admin, I can get the menu, but I can't logging as a domain user..

I see this as more valuable for our C suite than anything else. Being able to appear offline it would provide them a bit of confidence that they wouldn't be bugged unnecessarily.

While we're at this. Please allow something like: If on mobile only, appear offline. (Or "mobile only" or something like that.)
Away is interpreted as AFK/BRB just about everywhere, so I'm seen as "available in a moment" to the 24/7 team. As I do not log out of my mobile phone when I shut down the PC at end of business day, this is a bit of a bother.

yes, very important. this is causing a lot of privacy issues and annoyance.
As pointed out by others, something has changed and the list of options is much shorter. Also wondering if this is something intentional by Microsoft or if my company has twigged and locked this functionality down
This will avoid status tracking - so yes, it is a must!
Really need this to be able to prepare lessons undisturbed.
(I too have the limited menu, but I don't like to tweak anyway just to be able to work. Please put in the standard status menu) 'appear away' does *not* work since students know you are online)
OK good news?

It' just a must have!
who knows why I can not pick statusIndicatorState:offline ?
my extended developer option list is much shorter than the others I found on web.. pls adv :(
Oh please god yes yes yes - I am now dubbing teams Microsoft Anti-Productivity tool due to so many interruptions from people... I get less interruptions sitting next to them!!!
My list of options looks much shorter after the suggested 5-click/right-click, see screenshot.
Am I doing something wrong or is my company's MS team configured to avoid such manipulation?
We need appear offline option badly!
Please provide an Offline or Working Elsewhere option. I leave my office computer on so I can access it over VPN when I am working from home. Logging off is not an option but I do want to say I am effectively offline outside working hours. Please add this ability. Saying I am Away is not really sufficient as this usually is taken to signify that I have left my desk for a while during work. Maybe allow users to create their own status for full flexibility?
Here is a link with detailed instructions
I find it hard to believe that this isn't an intentional feature that was left out of Teams! How could developers not realize what the standard features were for these types of programs? Expect people to keep railing about the "oversight" until it is build into the software!! Not being able to appear offline while attempting to get work done undisturbed is not conducive to productivity so corporations might want to weigh that with the big brother monitoring that is currently allowed with this lacking version of Teams!

I checked and found this option.
Unfortunately as soon as you re-open it you have to select the option again as it will show you as available again.
But, better than nothing:
- Click on the MS Teams icon 5 times (not sure left or right click so try both)
This will open the extended version
- Find and select "Status Indicator", and select “statusIndicatorState:offline”
Usually it's the 10th option from the bottom
Hope that helps!
Thank you for posting this!! I was about to request this when I was redirected to your post. Skype has this feature and I find it very useful to appear offline when I need to focus, but don't want to look rude by choosing Do Not Disturb.
This is a "mission critical" feature that we lost from Skype for Business/Lync/Communicator. All of those platforms were less advertised, too, because they weren't so well integrated into everything.
I could even be "off work" by choice. So, having five options, outside of signing out of the client, isn't particularly helpful. We need the ability to appear offline, so that we are able to perform job duties in situations where we need to not be bothered (outside of work hours, for example).
Please ensure that this becomes a feature we can rely on.
