expand conversations default option
Add USER setting to expand all by default.
There's an existing idea for Collapsing/expanding conversations where it looks like they're working on implementing an Admin setting for collapse/expand, and a collapse/expand all button.
However, many of the comments on that idea are asking for something different:
Give us a USER-configurable option (not just admins) for whether threads are shown expanded or collapsed.
I feel like I spend most of my time catching up in Teams clicking "N replies from ..." or "See more" and would much prefer for everything to be shown by (my user-configured) default.
Even if this option was just for the "See more" behavior it would be WAY easier to view updates. Especially for channels we use for daily management, almost every reply is half-hidden with a "See More" link. I just scrolled through today's daily check-in thread which meant clicking EIGHT expander links, with scrolling in between.
is this in the roadmap ?
Need this feature!!! our team is hesitant to migrate to teams because they don't have this feature!
As others have noted, this issue is making us consider sticking with Slack.
Over 2 years on and this STILL isn't added?
WTF MS, this is a MAJOR pain point.
REMEMBER which conversations I have expanded/hidden and maintain that as I hop between channels/teams.
SUPER SIMPLE. JFC.
EDIT: Like most everything else about Teams coming from Slack, but this MIGHT keep us from migrating the whole company over (currently our team is evaluating it. Boss HATES this.)
I think people who are using slack who are trying to migrate to teams find this a real barrier
Agreed, we need an option to easily expanded *all* comments in a Team Channel (i.e. auto-expand anywhere you currently encounter "see more" and "5 replies from Bob, Jill, Sue, Al, and Ed".
In my case, it is a need so that we can copy+paste the chat content to a document for legal purposes & retention.
And yes, I know about eDiscovery exports, but the export creates a message (either .msg file or an inbox message) for each comment made in the channel, which is very cumbersome. Copy & pasting is muuuuuch faster.

Just been moved from slack to teams and its currently our biggest irritation, I dont want to keep clicking for context just show me everything!!!
Also why waste all the screen space with left and right margins and then collapse the vertical content.
I have spare screen space, utilise it... feels very claustrophobic especially coming from slack

Jesus MS, GET ON THIS! It's been two forking years!
Auto-collapse is INFURIATING!
My team (who we are trying to entice to use Teams vs. Slack) complained that this is a major reason why they want to stay with Slack -- they don't have to expand anything -- in Slack, they just see everything (no need to click).
It would be great to have this as an option (either user settable or per-Team/per-Channel or ... anything).
I also saw two other threads asking for this (with another 107 votes):

We would love to have this, we lose a lot of information by the actual behavior of hiding information on a thread and message level. Feels like an anti-pattern for communication. And becomes quickly annoying. I hope you can find a way. You could also check out other tools that handle this part better by just showing all the information at first glance.
Don't we have this yet?
I agreed, I found its really ANNOYING having conversation in team channel, then to reply to someone, return back and find all thread collapsed, and need expand again and again.

Wow, this is horrible. What a deal breaker. I want to find a comment, I have to go clicking and opening everyone one of the conversations???? Wow, I would definitely recommend Slack. Please add an option to turn this off immediately. When I clicked on "help" in Teams to research this problem "help" was broken.
wait, this isn't a default option? This is an intuitive design feature that anyone who works on a team let alone designing a team-based software should appreciate.
for people working in a setting with a lot of discussion activity, the cumbersomeness of having to make unnecessary clicks to scroll through threads is a big waste of time and very frustrating
It would also help tremendously if we could make it a CHANNEL setting, so that a channel owner can decide/set whether conversations in the channel should always be expanded.
As a developer, my conversations are technical, and each comment is long. At the very least, I want to read the entire last comment without expanding. Furthermore, conversations have a number of links and references which seem to collapse multiple times in a day. I would like the most recent conversation, and any conversations of the day to stay expanded, and not collapse so I can better find the data I am looking for.
Yes, please don't waste my time having to click to read the conversations. Love how Slack functions... extremely efficient

Agree with others to empower user to make the choice but this feature should be enabled. This is one complaint I get from those using Slack vs. Teams.
Empower users to make their own decision by giving them the option to expand\collapse messages
Please Microsoft especially with larger and fast growing teams this is a feature that is extremely lacking.
