expand conversations default option
Add USER setting to expand all by default.
There's an existing idea for Collapsing/expanding conversations where it looks like they're working on implementing an Admin setting for collapse/expand, and a collapse/expand all button.
However, many of the comments on that idea are asking for something different:
Give us a USER-configurable option (not just admins) for whether threads are shown expanded or collapsed.
I feel like I spend most of my time catching up in Teams clicking "N replies from ..." or "See more" and would much prefer for everything to be shown by (my user-configured) default.
Even if this option was just for the "See more" behavior it would be WAY easier to view updates. Especially for channels we use for daily management, almost every reply is half-hidden with a "See More" link. I just scrolled through today's daily check-in thread which meant clicking EIGHT expander links, with scrolling in between.

It would also help tremendously if we could make it a CHANNEL setting, so that a channel owner can decide/set whether conversations in the channel should always be expanded.

As a developer, my conversations are technical, and each comment is long. At the very least, I want to read the entire last comment without expanding. Furthermore, conversations have a number of links and references which seem to collapse multiple times in a day. I would like the most recent conversation, and any conversations of the day to stay expanded, and not collapse so I can better find the data I am looking for.

Yes, please don't waste my time having to click to read the conversations. Love how Slack functions... extremely efficient

Agree with others to empower user to make the choice but this feature should be enabled. This is one complaint I get from those using Slack vs. Teams.

Empower users to make their own decision by giving them the option to expand\collapse messages

Please Microsoft especially with larger and fast growing teams this is a feature that is extremely lacking.

Agree with this feedback. It needs to be possible to configure whether or not conversations and replies are expanded per default or not.

I can't believe this is still an idea that we need to upvote. Ridiculous! I read the other comments and it felt like reading my own thoughts. Chat is useless because of that "feature" we all want to get rid of.

Please, make this user configurable. This is a PITA with big teams and lots of chat messages to follow up / keep track.

My vote:
User configurable option for default view (collapsed or expanded)
Additionally, once I collapse a thread, do not auto-expand it until another comment is added to it
Conversely, once I expand a thread, do not auto-collapse it until I manually collapse itNothing more irritating than selecting a view (collapsed or expanded) and having that view changed the next time I view the channel

Same problem here... so unintuitive after Slack, so much, that i forced to go back - i want Telegram for my Company... is it just real? Because this is next level, like 10 years of development ahead of this.

This is constantly annoying, I look at a conversation happening today and have to expand it multiple times to find responses.
Always expanded by default would also be much better.
After say 2 weeks the conversations could be collapsed but I would prefer always expanded. -

You can see comments by users in chronological order, without having to click see more *IN THIS VERY FORUM, BUT NOT IN THE ACTUAL APP* which to any rational person would prove that they know how to implement such a feature, or at least know someone who does and have chosen not to for, well, Microsoft reasons *spooky hand waving*

At this point, it feels like Teams is a clicking and expanding app, which also happens to let you send messages. Normally you want to minimize the number of clicks for a user to complete an action, but I guess Microsoft seems to have misheard that as "maximize" when building Teams.

This is really starting to get annoying. After using Teams for awhile my preference would be to do the following:
1. Let users have complete choice over their defaults in the config menu to expand or collapse BOTH conversations and messages/replies inside conversations.
2. Provide a right-click option or button to expand all, like the collapse all.
3. Even when fully collapsed conversations are not easy to scan if there are many and there should be a one-line spreadsheet like view for these as well.
4. To make the user interface more efficient there should also be something like what is done with gmail (default, comfortable, compact). -

I can't believe how long this has been this terrible. I use Teams all the time, except for chat. We use Slack cause of this very reason. Clicking those ridiculous expand links is just plan bad a waste of time and totally counter productive. Why are they there in the first place? Did you get beat by a patent or something?

There are numerous duplicate ideas about this very thing scattered throughout Teams UserVoice. People hate the 'see more' for long messages behavior. Granular settings, per team/channel settings are not the issue, we just want to be able to see the information that our colleagues are trying to communicate without having to click a tiny text label, please let us.

Yes, please implement this. It is the single most annoying thing about the UI

What is the point of this uservoice forum if Microsoft will not listen?
