Admin Controlled contact group available to all Teams users
Administrator 's ability to create a domain wide or tenant wide groups of contacts for example per department that is available to all Teams users like a company directory. Same as in other corporate messaging wherein any changes in the contact will be synced to all clients.
Admin controlled contact groups for Teams are available via the O365 Global Address List (GAL). Please see documentation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/exchange/address-books/address-lists/create-global-address-list.
This is a feature that needs to be included
Come on, MS. This issue is preventing us from switching to Teams. Looking like Slack it is...

Alex, thanks for the 'Try This Instead'. "Admin controlled contact groups for Teams are available via the O365 Global Address List (GAL)." Your link shows how to create the GAL, but where do we apply these as Org-Wide Contact Lists in Teams?
This is needed. Having the ability to pre-populate Contact Groups is huge. Contacts/groups seems to be the only way to see a quick status of people logged in to Teams for one. Adding new employees to a company is very cumbersome if each new employee needs to manually add each contact not to mention every existing employee needs to then go in and add the new employee to their list.

We need this. Just starting out with teams, and I have to ask each user to use favorites as a workaround.

It is ridiculous that this cannot be done. It's basic stuff.

Absolutely critical this feature is added in order to make Teams a viable replacement for Skype

This is badly badly needed. Can't move business to teams without it.

Would love to see functionality added to contact groups for sure. I created a contact group in teams but I cannot for the life of me figure out any place I can actually refer to the group?

I need this as well, for our overhead paging system, door entry systems and other functions.
I need to have a searchable contact in teams with an external (local phone company 1fb) telephone number in teams.Paging is used at several locations with 2000+ people.
create Contact list central and external number dial-able contacts are critical.

This would be a VERY USEFUL function within MS Teams.
+6000 employees screaming for this function
Angry having lost all contacts due to SfB to Team migration.
Imagine having lost a contact list of 6000 users.
Can't even find any function to simply import users into the contact list in teams manually.
We have a situation where we have a company with various daughter companies.
Every company has a seperate tenant in O365.
I would like to be able to create groups (that are representing our various companies) and populate those group with all the users of those companies.
Yes please! This would be great. I agree with other comments. You can't expect the end user to create and update their own contact lists.
This feature would be extremely useful.
I'd love this!
