Poor performance on MacOS
I can't use teams with out it lagging severely. When I go and look at the processes running, It always looks like the 'helper' is taking up crazy amounts of CPU and it lags out the application to the point of it almost being unusable.
I've tried closing the application, rebooting, re-installing, checking for updates, etc.. nothing works.
I'm on macOS Mojave 10.14.2
Thank you for your feedback. We are continually looking to bring performance boosts to the Mac Client, including improvements with Electron 10 that are releasing. We are also aggressively addressing other areas of performance around the Mac client

Really, really need a fix for this. Managing Microsoft Teams, OneDrive (which is also very slow) and collaborating on a Word doc drags my system to a halt. Please, please, please, please update this. I'm on a relatively recent MacBook Pro and it should be able to handle these programs very easily.
Are there any updates on what we can expect? We're not on Windows, but we're still paying customers.

It's a shame how bad it works. As soon I have a team call it's hard to work with my mac (MacBook Pro 2018 i7 32GB Ram) as everything slows down. Funny side fact: Having a Teams call AND working with Microsoft Office is even worse and much slower still!
Please do something!
I've been following this thread for a while and have had issues with Teams for most of the pandemic, but I had 2 successful Teams meeting today without the fans on my Mac spinning up at all! The first was 77 participants with about 10 on camera, and the second was about 20 participants with 5 on camera. Both worked well. Maybe they really are working on it??
This is definitely our experience and we regret very much closing a thread which had a considerable bow wave of relevant comments to this
I have a high end 2019 16" MacBook pro with 32gb of ram, it is ridiculous how much Teams drags my computer to a crawl even if its the only thing running. If Im in a meeting good luck trying to do anything else but use teams. While youre at it, get a better codec, its why Zoom works so well

Yes, update please? One of my clients forces me to use it... I am in Teams meetings all day, and it slows everything down on a 3yr old MacBook Pro with 16G RAM... This is outrageous.
My daughter's Mac even crashed last Saturday when she was taking an online EXAM at university via Teams...
During Meetings when sharing webcams and screens, CPU resources and memory consumption. spike. The M1 Macs seem to perform better, even in Rosetta2 mode, compared to the Intel models. But significant optimisation is still needed.
During a call Teams hogs resources more so than other apps that do the same job. Making running presentations or a browser almost impossible

I updated to the M1 Macbook Air and it seems to handle Teams much better than before. That said, you should consider improving the performance on Intel macs, since a lot of users are still on the older platform and business users can take years before they can upgrade their machine.
It runs bad enough on our windows systems but it is even worse on a mac for some reason.. Especially during video calls.. Frequent hangs and drop outs on calls is common for our mac users.

Now that you have split the complaints about Teams performance in to several different threads, from the current vote counts, it is obvious that the majority of problems are with Teams on Mac. If you're going to support an OS, then we would kindly ask that you actually support it!
Please get these incredibly bad performance issues resolved ASAP, "Working on it" for 3 months is appalling! Can only presume the concept of agile software development is not something practiced at Microsoft :(
No one wants your tiny performance tweaks, 1% here, 5% there. Just stop using Electron to reduce memory consumpion by 75% and processing power by a similar amount.
This is still a real issue.

The worst app on Mac. Meetings in every match ( 1-2-1, group, with video or without) makes mac unusable. You need to fix it, cmon.
The issue was posted in 2018
Now is the 2021 - and the problem is still here!!
At time of writing OneDrive (not Teams which I have never used) activates the GPU. Have blown away various teams directories as suggested elsewhere and restarted OneDrive. Again not that I have ever used teams.

Any experience to share on new Mac with ARM M1 processor?

Agreed. Teams with video produces CPU Load 70 according to htop.
This is still a problem. Moving meetings to Zoom.
Only update I see is yet another new version for windows that seems to have resulted in similar CPU usage patterns on calls. Guess the issues is common across all platforms. Well last reports of teams updates on windows is that they now appear to be having similar performance issues to mac. Over 17k comments. Maybe some one will fix this eventually but you would expect during a pandemic that it would be a priority....instead the lingering of this just opens the market for a competitor as now the entire user base is looking for alternatives. https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/17219609-teams-uses-600mb-and-is-super-slow
