Poor performance on MacOS
I can't use teams with out it lagging severely. When I go and look at the processes running, It always looks like the 'helper' is taking up crazy amounts of CPU and it lags out the application to the point of it almost being unusable.
I've tried closing the application, rebooting, re-installing, checking for updates, etc.. nothing works.
I'm on macOS Mojave 10.14.2
Thank you for your feedback. We are continually looking to bring performance boosts to the Mac Client, including improvements with Electron 10 that are releasing. We are also aggressively addressing other areas of performance around the Mac client
Version 1.4.00.7175 now randomly crashes on my MAC....never had that feature before just the ongoing last 4yrs of poor performance and high CPU use. I check with others using a mac and they are all suffering random crashes now as well. So nothing i can do to fix it. Now other than alot of fan noise, overheating killing my battery, i need to continually check if teams has died silently when in the middle of meetings. Seems the performance is just getting better and better each day. Can we go back to Skype? It worked.
I've been struggling to debug this to the point it is usable on a mac m1 and it hasnt been easy.
Teams is almost unusable with a bluetooth headset. If I'm on a video call and trying to use bluetooth performance stutters constantly. When I switch to a usb wired mic, no stuttering. I suspect the processor use is so high that it just cant keep up.
If I do get a bluetooth headset to work for a call, then try to make a call a few minutes later, the mic isnt working again.
Also, when I'm on a call and working with two monitors and have multiple windows open, I can never find a button to hang up the call at the end....The only way I've found is to quit the program.
very poor app. please fix this. I'm being forced by my IT dept to use Teams instead of zoom, and it's really awful.
Please, please, please!
Teams Web app on Microsoft Edge on Mac M1 is getting stuck while in a call as I am not able to see the screen for a while. If the other person is sharing a ppt then I am only able to see some of the slides as it gets stuck and then resumes after a while. Please check and if possible bring the arm version of the app soon. Even the insider build will do fine.
Thanks for the newest build link below ! And it still a nightmare with Electron 10 if that's the case ! :(
It seems like you can already download the latest exploration build which is currently on Electron 10.4.2 by downloading it from https://statics.teams.cdn.office.net/production-osx/1.4.00.10607/Teams_osx.pkg.
I actually managed to grab this particular build from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ItzLevvie/MicrosoftTeams-msinternal/master/defconfig, and the builds list is seemingly updated every day or so.
I can not attend my online class at a time because when I join my classes it's simply goes blank ..and I unable to see my screen...then I have switched off my phone and wait for screen to on......check this out....worst app....
It freaking terrible on big sur. cant even log in. please fix it, i need to go to school. please. i have no other way, and quite frankly web client sucks.

Please... get off of Electron. The only people who like Electron are web developers. When a company like Microsoft goes the route of Electron, it is a user hostile decision. I don't know ANY end users that enjoy using Electron based apps. Seriously...

Teams crashes my Mac OS at least 3 times a day due to the mass amounts of Memory it uses.
I have a fresh install and it's just not stable. How can Zoom be so stable but Teams be just horrible on my Mac? I mean what are ya'll doing which takes up so much memory? I've shared my system info incase this helps in any way possible. I wanted to add, the crashes happen when the video is not always on, it just leaks so much memory and then takes a dump! Does anyone have any Flex Seal laying around so I can patch this leaky hole?

My collegeas are asking if I'm living next to an airplane all the time. Please fix this!
Like other users asked, does that include native support for Apple M1? This is the ONLY application that has no native support and it's performing slow, crashing and also eating battery.
Hang on, let me get this right, your going to update with a base that is 3 release old? I suppose that aligns with how long this thread has been running on performance on Mac issues. So essentially, in 3 yrs time we get to see the base updated to what there is today. Great....think this sums everything up as to where this is and why this has been going for 4 years.

Microsoft: Working on it!

Alex (Teams Engineering) - does this include M1 Apple Silicon native support?
Alex, this thread and problem have been running for many years now with lots of promises that its being fixed imminently or has been fixed but things carry on the same as before. I'm afraid MS credibility on this issue is wearing thin

Thanks for the progress report. I can report improvements in the performance, but it is still slower than it should be, and there are times (less frequent) that the whole thing slows to a near halt.
@Alex, Improvements with Electron "What?" Tell me you're joking. Electron had two major releases already - 11 from November brought and later cemented M1 support, 12 was released beginning of March. It's fairly easy to update to Electron with M1 support - I did it personally for a couple of projects. Bah, Slack did it a month after M1 hit retail. Lazy on your part.
Exactly what the other said - stop slacking and developing meaningless feature requests 5 persons asked about and compile/deploy Catalyst version to macOS customers. It would benefit all macOS users, Intel and M1. And will finally force your custom notifications to adhere to Do Not Disturb mode.
I would bet my eyebrows as Proser did this is not gonna happen in 2021 though…
Godawful app, whoever is in charge of it should think about what they are doing with their life if there is such discontent with their abomination.
