Try changing the photo in System Settings instead of Teams.
On search bar type: your account info
Then upload the photo there. That appears to change the photo for Teams too.

Has anyone figured out a simple way to add a photo as a profile pic? Seems to be impossible.

This is so absolutely uhhmm stupid. A trillion software communication company hasn't figured out how to allow customers to upload a profile pic? Really?
Better call Mark over at FB for some points. lol. Why am I spending 30 trying to upload a photo anyways? lol -

As many before me, I also tried to change my profile picture in Teams, only to get "There was a problem with saving the photo. Please try again."
Well, I've tried different photos, sizes types (jpeg, png, bmp, gif) all to no avail!
It's been very frustrating thus far!It would be REALLY useful if you - MICROSOFT - actually provided some tips/ guidelines re format and size!
You really should try harder. Thank you

This is one possibility -
Teams users with mailboxes hosted on premises must be synchronized to Azure Active Directory. They can change the user profile picture providing Exchange Server 2016 (Cumulative Update 3), or above, is running on-premises. -

And the problem still persist as I cannot upload my picture on any of possible devices (App, Iphone, Androind). How long we still have to wait?

Literally on any device accessing teams through any browser or directly through the app on Apple/Android/Windows. It is shocking to me that this is such a simple issue and it has not been solved in the past three years. I use Teams with my students and they completed an entire assignment creating a Team picture. If I had known this capability wouldn't work...

I found Teams' debugging output. This is what I get when I try to upload an image to this particular team.

I had this error but was able to update the image from my iOS device. It uploaded a bit weird, as it zoomed into the pic. However after doing this I was able to successfully update it from the windows app (with the same picture!) without the error.
