Delete files shared in chat
Files shared in Chat are stored to OneDrive, but there is no way to delete file from within Teams. When file is deleted from OneDrive, it is (of course) no longer available and the individual gets a "Sorry, we couldn't find you file" error.
I would like to remove the shared file entry from the Teams chat.

SOLUTION: Delete the message within the CHAT that contains the file upload. It will delete it from the Files tab.

Any update on this one? Seems odd you can't delete...

Incredible that this old idea has not been adressed yet.
Microsoft, this is a VERY basic functionality that shouldn't be too hard to fix. -

I've suffered from this and I ended up reading this thread because I couldn't delete a link in the Files tab of a meeting in Teams for a file that I'd deleted from OneDrive. I've subsequently discovered, more by luck than judgement, that if I delete the post in the Chat what was automatically posted when I originally shared the file, the (now broken) link to the file also disappears from the Files tab. Very much a workaround rather than a solution but it's something. This also explains another irritating phenomenon, which is where my Shared file links disappear periodically - based on what I just discovered above, and knowing that my org purges posts from Chats after 30 days, it's clear that the disappearing File tab links are caused by my org purging the related Chat posts!

This problem exists with Meetings as well as Chat. Impossible to delete a file that has been uploaded to a meeting.

Not able to remove one time use files from the Share Tray after weekly tag up. Share tray now full of out of day info and making it difficult to find the files needed for a specific meeting. Please fix as an immediate action.
I note this capability has been requested multiple times going back to Feb.
Wake up Teams - this cannot be allowed to continue.

I echo the "deal breaker" comments.... If a fperson is trying to bring new users up to speed on collaboration software, to not allow new users who are learning and experimenting to make corrections to keep everything smooth and organized will turn people off from the entire collaboration suite of products and drive them to competitors quickly. IMO this should be escalated internally with the Product team urgently.

The link is also broken if the file is renamed in OneDrive (expecting to sync to the Teams chat, since files cannot be renamed in the Teams chat), leaving the original file in the Teams chat inaccessible and undeletable.

Hello,
I've got almost the same question as Lisa: I would like to delete a "funny" picture that I have added in a "chat" but never sent.
I can't find a way to remove it so it is blocking this chat stream.
As hasn't been shown to the remote part it should be allowed to remove it.
Can you help me with this? -

This is a deal-breaker. We have to be able to delete things we saved, shared, entered, messages, etc. The clutter will quickly make this application unusable, and impossible to find anything!

I really need this basic function available in Chats.

Totally agree - I think Anonymous on July 11 2019 has phrased it well:
I propose: 1) deleting from chat, remove from Chat only (including permissions). 2) Deleting from OneDrive deletes from both OneDrive and Chat.

Seems like a major mistake not to allow this functionality. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Also agree to other users, that this is a mandatory function for collaboration with others. I really don't understand why it was decided to skip this function...

It's frustrating if I add the wrong file to the chat and can't get rid if it...and then it's in there with all the other valid files for the conversation.
